The sooner the better, really. MIL makes her Christmas cakes around this time of year (feeding the fruit cake with booze on a weekly basis and icing the cake in December). I actually only started eating the cake she made me last year a couple of weeks ago and it is AMAZING!

I don't, but I could ask her if I speak to her in the next couple of weeks (I'm seeing her on 13 Sep if you can wait until then). I do the eating, not the making ?

Cool - I will try my hardest to remember!

No, it's baaaaad that someone makes one for me, as I'm the only person who eats it in our house. I've polished off a family size Christmas cake (with extra thick marizpan) in just under four weeks ?

I normally start making them the first week in October (having a cake business (sort of) I have to make quite a few). I'll probably start a bit earlier this year though as we're having a holiday in October.

I can post you a recipe for a yummy, Christmassy fruit cake if you'd like?

Sorry, I'm a 'bit' late spotting your reply to this. Would you still like it?

PP - i'd like the recipie if you have the time to type it out, i'm hosting christmas lunch this year for the in-laws after a horrible christmas lunch there so a home made christmas cake would score me huge brownie points ?

That's fantastic thanks. Is it easy enough to do for a baking novice?

Yep. It's a 'throw it all in' kind of cake. Enjoy!
