Not really. the main meal is usually so huge that anything apart from some smoked salmon and horseradish blinis and the odd sausage roll and glass of prosecco is just too much.

We usually have decent coffee and orange juice (posher than normal), normal tea ?, good croissants/brioche, nice jam.

You could do all sorts though - scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, eggs benedict, a good quality fry-up...

Something low maintenance - toast probably. No point stuffing anyone full of food before the main event.

We have fresh warm crusty bread (those part baked rolls do the job nicely) with cream cheese and smoked salmon and a glass of bubbly. We like to start the day as we mean to go on ?

Thanks all, We won't be eating until at least 3/4 ish so i was thinking of something light yet filling to keep us going, so scrambled eggs or crossiants sound ok, i think i'll have a mooch around and see what i can find.

    Thanks for all suggestions ?

We will be on our own for breakfast, but will still dress the table and have assorted warm breads and jams, real coffee and orange juice. Also have a small table gift for each other

I normally have a croissant, as we eat our lunch a bit later than most people. H has to have crunchy nut cornflakes and cream, no idea why.

We have always had pikelets but this year I cant find them in Tesco or M&S which is where I usually get them, I have had to break it to the kids that the traditional Christmas day brekkie is going to have to be changed! Toasted muffins seem to be the next choice...

We won't be eating until about 6pm or so as we wait for my brother - he runs the whole Crisis shebang for London and won't finish his shift until about 3pm and then has to get to us in SW London from his shift in East London.

So...we'll probably have smoked salmon & scrambled eggs and fizzy. Have a few small nibbles around lunchtime (obviously depending what time we get up and have breakfast).

Then the full works later on.

Just your normal, everyday breakfast then? ?

What we've done the past two years is have some SS and bread and champagne as a kind of starter/breakfast/canape hybrid, about two hours or so before the main meal.

Can you not make them? Would be a nice thing to do on Cristmas morning. If time is a problem I bet you could make them the day before and reheat them?

We used to have smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on multi-grain toasted bread (I wish I could get that here, but it's just not the same as British bread!), but things have changed since moving here and not being alone on Christmas morning.

I couldn't tell you what we had at Mum's last year.

This year we'll be in a hotel having breakfast .. first time ever for both of us waking up in a hotel on Christmas morning. Strangely, I'm looking forward to it. And their breakfast!

Aren't pikelets basically drop pancakes/ blinis?

if so they're really easy and super scrummy to make.

Pikelets are like thin flat crumpets - it had never occurred to me that I could make them <thick icon> but have just googled and they do look easy, so i will have a practice run this weekend and then hopefully do them on Christmas eve and toast them on Christmas day (bit busy to make from scratch on Christmas morning!)

    Thanks everyone!

Don't usually bother with much really. Tend to have toast or if i can be bothered to cook then we have cheese and bacon oatcakes (staffordshire variety) with brown sauce.

Last year we had pancakes, usually we just have a turkey sandwich...

This year we've not having breakfast, or Christmas dinner - we're having a brunch instead...

Fillet steak, duck eggs, sausages wrapped in bacon, something spud related, baked mushrooms, roasted vine tomatoes and soda bread.

It's just me and H and I can't be dealing with a turkey and all the trimmings for two, besides we're going to my Mums late afternoon by which point they will probably only just be eating lunch so I can always sneak a second meal there ?

We usually have croissants/pain choc with fresh orange juice and fresh filter coffee. I really enjoy the bit of time we have together first thing Christmas morning for breakfast before heading off to meet up with the family.

As our first married christmas, the only time we have alone is Christmas Day morning. Am planning on some pain au chocolat, fizz, nice fruit and decent coffee.

Our traditional family breakfast is to open the presents with a cup of tea, then have bucks fizz with bacon and/or sausage butties. The next meal is the main one at about 2pm. I think there are some good suggestions on here for your breakfast.

Bacon butties if we're at H's mum and dad's house. At home just some nice coffee for H, tea for me, toast all round or maybe crumpets. Harriet will probably have a cup of milk or Ovaltine and her chocolate coins and some toast. We like to leave room for the huge lunch we'll have later at PILs.

The suggestion of not having much for breakfast because of a big meal later, is frankly laughable. Christmas Day is an eating fest that I train for weeks in advance. It involves training your mind just as much as your stomach. You need to think in compartments (breakfast is a different compartment to canapes, dinner is a separate compartment to dessert, chocolate orange is a different compartment to mince pies, and so on and so forth).

In this way, following a strict program, I manage to eat a modest fry up with thick doorstops of toast and lashings of butter on Christmas morning.

I sneer at you weaklings who eat a mere croissant. Bring it on!?
