Christmas Hamper for One

Ice Queen, 1 December, 2008 at 17:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

OH's Nan lives on her own so we thought we would make her a food hamper for Christmas

We are looking for individual Christmas cakes, small packs of mince pies, mini Christmas puds, etc - anyone know where we can get these?

Any other suggestions for what we can put in it?

I would have a look at the standard christmas hampers and steal their ideas! You can get small bottles of wine too. Crackers and cheese maybe?

I have used interflora for these in the past if it's any help.

M&S do lots of individual cakes, puddings etc.

How about an individual christmas cracker - like this

What about some of those little pots of Jam/Marmald that you get in the supermarkets ?

A nice tin of cookies, the single stack of about 10 in them would be nice. I also think the small bottle of wine is a nice idea.

I've seen the small christmas puds in places like morrisons and asda, they normally do 3 for so many £s. Might be worth having a look.

My sister and I are doing one between us for our grandmother, who's 82. So far we've got:

    • Small tin of biscuits
    • Small bottle of olive oil (she asked for this)
    • Some chocolates
    • A mini-pannetone (she always buys them for everyone else)
    • Some pouches of nice soup for one

Also looking for: some croutons, maybe some mince pies. You used to be able to get pesto in single serving sachets, but I can't find any at the moment. I've also seen those "pouches" of stew/casseroles that I might get - she's not been very well and nice food that's portioned for one, doesn't need to go in the fridge and just need heating up will probably go down well.

We're doing this for my grandparents. We intend to go around M&S or Waitrose and do a fairly regular shop except for fresh, fridge, frozen stuff. I know they like M&S tinned ham so that will be in there. Tinned salmon too (as I remember getting that pretty much every time we go around there!). Jars of things to cook with. Pickles. They like M&S food but can't get to one. I'll be baking scones and muffins for them too but I do that regularly.

I looked on the M&S site and they give lists of everything that is in their hampers so that might give you some more ideas.
