Church prices?

HappyPinkConfetti118, 17 April, 2014 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi, I'm very new here we haven't even set a date yet but hoping for late 2015/early 2016. I've been lurking the past few days checking things out etc and trying to get a feel for prices of things so we can budget.... Loads of things are really hard to find prices like dress/cars/church.

So that's my question really, if anyone wouldn't mind saying how much they are paying to get married in Catholic Church? When we got the kids baptised there were no set rules, just a donation of what you thought was appropriate but I'm thinking as a wedding is much more involved it may be more structured price-wise..

thanks! Xx

You are best speaking with your church directly I think.

We married in COE Church and the prices are listed on the website but they do vary from parish to parish.

sorry I can't be any more help, but welcome along!

We're getting married in a catholic church and they aren't charging...pretty sure all are the same but best to ask your priest just incase.

We'll be giving a donation anyway though.

Hi, we're getting married in a Catholic Church, our priest told us to just give a donation. As a rough guide he said to think about how much it costs per guest over the whole day and to give that amount.

If you marry in a Catholic church, do you have to pay the legal registrar-type fees as you would if you had a civil wedding? If not you guys are getting quite a bargain!

I think it depends on your parish. Not all catholic priests are authorised to register marriages, our oarish has an authorised person, whose fee is £45, but if not you would need a registrar to come out too.

In the Catholic Church, marriage is a sacrament, so they don't charge Smiley smile

Yes, that's the giving notice fee. Do you then have to pay the £400+ that it costs to get a registrar out for a civil ceremony, or is that not charged if the church has its own appointed person?

For a Catholic marriage ceremony you have to give notice at your local register office which is £35 each.

Most Catholic Churches have an authorised person and 99% of the time this is the priest. If it isn't you may have to pay a small fee to the AP (who may be a member of the congregation).

If there is no AP then you also have to book a registrar and they will charge currently £88 (I think). TheCatholic Church usually just expects a donation.
