Church Wedding

UnionJackDream, 20 February, 2012 at 20:15 Posted on Planning 0 24

Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me a hint of what you guys are paying for your church? My vicar is on holiday for another 2 months so I can't see find out the price for our big day and unfortunately we went over budget on our venue (already) and I am finding it hard to plan.

Has anyone had a singer while they sign the register? My friend is a singer and has asked what I want and I have no clue....

Thank you Smiley smile xxxx

We're paying just over £700 for our church that includes bell and choir though and those were optional extras!

Ours is £630 all in (organist and choir), but that includes an extra £70 for our banns to be read in our parish, as we are getting married in a different parish to where we live. Bit annoying as the church is still only 10 mins walk from our flat.

Ours was CofE and was £850 for the service and organist (£650 for just the service).

This didn't include flowers, choir or bells...

Plus we had to pay £34 to get our banns read in our local parish.

Mrs C - did you pay the £34 in total, or per person?

    Thanks,

We also had a church wedding - here where we live in n-wales it cost us a fraction of what other posters paid for their church weddings- ours all in was £334 that included banns in another parish- we had the organist @ £40 and then the church fee & then the vicars fee.. we even had bells and that was in the price, we didn't even ask for the bells i just heard them as we were taking pics outside ? crazy how each parish have different prices ?

In the budget (guestimation based on 2 years ago plus a bit!) I've got £321.50 for the official bit, £90 for organist (worth every penny, he is amazing, can play pretty well anything in the repertoire and the organ would be 600k to replace) £120 Bells, £110 Choir, £40 Utilities and £54 total for Banns (need 2 different churches as we're marrying out of parish). Total £737.5. But if you're getting married after 2013 there's a change in that the Official Stuff, Banns (possibly not out of parish) and utilities will be a fixed rate.

It's a fair whack, but I'm happy to pay it (and if I have the spare cash will make sure I donate more!) because the church is stunning and it is important to me to be married in front of God. I know the church costs at least £2000/week just to run, not counting saving for repairs to an 800 year old listed building, and the choir, bells and organist charges are paying for the people to give up their time.

Ours was a catholic mass and was free as the priest was my husbands cousin! We bought him a lovely vase though! We just had song bird by Eva Cassidy playing on a cd through the church sound system as we signed register, it was lovely. And the Beatles All you need is love as we left! I dont think most churches allow this kind of thing though! He is a pretty cool priest!

Music wise, for signing the register we're having Ave Maria (Schubert) and Panis Angelicus (Franck)

I'm quite lucky that our catholic priest is so laid back and he said no fees for the church but we still want to give a donation so we were thinking 100-200. Haven't rung the organist yet so don't know what he will charge.

We paid £550 for our church, this included bells, a 9 person choir and the organist. We had to pay another £34 for our banns to be read in our local parish church as well as the church we got married in. so £584 in total. It appears that we had a bargain compared to some of the above prices.

I'm budgeting about £1,500 to include the organist, choir etc etc and it looks like prices are going up next year as well!

Our initial price worked out to be about £1,200 so I'm allowing for an increase.

Seems to be a lot more than others but I'm not going to compromise on where we get married now I have been talked into getting married in a church.

Ours is costing us £747.50, this includes organist, bells and the choir. the bells are costing us £225, choir £70 and organist £60, the rest is legal fees (if thats the right word) and the church fee's i think.

We are having our friend sing, i thought he was signing Ave Maria but he has informed me it is the wedding version of the song, going to have to google it to see which one it is?????

We're Catholic, so no fee for ours. Just £50 if we want the organist to play and obv we pay legal stuff too.

I feel really lucky looking at some of the prices here, we will just give a £50 donation for our sevice.
