Church wedding bookings, advice please!!

futuremclaughlin2014, 22 August, 2012 at 11:22 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi all,

After viewing a number of venues we have decided on our reception venue and are hoping to book this on Sunday for June 2014!!

I have spoken to my parish priest who has informed me that he cannot take a booking for the church until January 2013, has anyone else had the same information? I'm worried if we go ahead and book the reception venue then the priest says the date isn't free we will be stuck! I thought about sending him an email when we do book just to keep the date provisionally if possible and I will speak to him in January to set it in stone.

Thanks xx

I booked in early July for our October 2013 wedding and he thought I was a bit early in booking, but I don't think he'd have NOT let me book a date if it was any later.

That's very odd though - might be worth speaking to him again and explaining that you need to at least provisionally book the date, so that you can pay the deposit for the reception venue.

It could have something to do with the pricing structures or laws or something. At least you know if you get in early enough, your date will be available!

I spoke to mine about May2014 and he's pencilled us in. There's no rush for us to pay the deposit as it's so far away, but he said he'll contact us if anyone else asks for this date to see if we still want it and so we can secure it with the deposit. Everywhere is different, our original evening venue took a provisional booking then on another visit we were told we can't have booked it because they don't have prices or a diary for 2014. We've now got somewhere else and they are happy to take a proper booking.

Have you asked if you can pay the deposit now to secure the date (get a receipt!) and say you will go and see him in the first week of January so he can put the date in the diary.

I would ask him what date in jan can you book the church for the wedding, that way just make sure on that particular date you contact the church as soon as you can to book the date.

This was also my thought, we booked our church two years in advance but they could only give us a rough price guide as it does change yearly.

We've only been given a rough quote, but are still allowed to book it and pay the deposit. The deposit is usually a set amount, so yearly price increases shouldn't really affect it, just means you have to pay a bigger final balance.

I've been trying to pay our church for 6 months and they won't take a penny until a week before the day.

We booked our church in August last year for an October this year wedding. She just pencilled us in.

Turns out we needn't have been so eager anyway as there's only 6 weddings in the entire year for our church!

I've not had this problem. I'm surprised that the Church would allow a wedding on a Sunday tho given that they would be busy with Sunday service that day.

We booked our church in May 2012 for our November 2013 wedding. Our vicar was happy to book the time for us, but couldn't confirm the costs or anything until next year's parish rates have been decided.

I've had something similar. We wanted to book the church for July 2014 and they orgianally told me that they hadn't even got a calendar for 2014 yet and to call back in a few months. I called back about and month and half later and they had got the calendar Smiley smile they have put our names, date and time down in the diary and although it's not an official booking they have told us we have our date as we are first Smiley smile so hopefully the are no problems!! They said they will be in touch nearer the time to go over details etc x

We had originally booked and put £50.00 deposit for 3rd May 2014 and that was in February this year and we were also given a rough idea idea of what the new fees would be. We then changed our date with no problem have since also changed the time! Different parishes must have their own way of going about the bookings I guess

We booked our church well over a year ago for our wedding in June 2013. The vicar told us at that time that he had already got one for 2014 then! fingers crossed you get your date when you contact him ?
