Civil Ceremonies

Weather Girl, 30 December, 2008 at 13:13 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi People

I'm thinking of having a civil ceremony at a licensed venue however I have been reading that prior to the ceremony the bride and groom meet with the registrar. Does this mean the groom will see you in your dress and everything before the actual ceremony?

I'm a little overwhelmed with all the info I've been reading so anyone's experiences of civil ceremonies would be greatly appreciated! ?

Hi, don't worry. What I think they mean is that a week before you go see the registrar so he/she can get to know you a bit so to discuss the type of ceremony. This way you all know what to expect. It will be very useful because anything you are not sure about they will have lots of experience with and can give you advice.

Because we live abroard we never got to meet with our registrar and altough she was lovely, a chat would have prepared us better.

    Hi December,

What it means, is that they will see you separately for about 5 mins, just to chat bout stuff. He wont see you on the day until you are ready!

Hope this helps, and welcome to hitched!

    Welcome to Hitched!

At most of the weddings we have photographed, the registrar has come up to the room where the bride is getting ready to see her. At venues where the bride arrives, they have already seen the groom and either come out to the bride or take the bride into a side room to go over the paperwork. It only takes a few mins and they just confirm details. Nothing to worry about.

One thing to mention (and obviously biased since we are photographers) is that if your photographs are important to you then you should check the registrars policy on photography. We have done 2 Civil ceremonies this year where there was an absolute ban on photography from the bride entering the room until the couple went out. Most registrars are fine about it, but I just thought I would mention it as one couple got a shock when they found out.

    Happy planning.
