Civil ceremony question!

mrscupcake, 23 November, 2010 at 17:12 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi ?

We are having a civil ceremony which starts at 3pm. My question is... what time do I put on the invites??? As the registrar told me I have to be there at least 15 mins before the ceremony starts to go through some legal questions? Do I put 3pm and hope people will turn up early? Or earlier and keep them waiting? What have fellow b2b's done about this?

Thanks for your help

Guests will know that the Ceremony starts at 3pm so will arrive at least 30 mins before.

Ive just put the time the ceremony starts.

But I must admit did worry that I should have put an earlier time.

Then thought that most of my guest will know that is the time of the ceremony and turn up atleast 15 mins before (I hope) lol

We put ceremony 1.30pm, guests arrive from 1.00pm, knowing full well that a number of people will be there early.

The "issue" is that guests do arrive late. If you want to have your "reveal", you need to get the guests inside the venue before you arrive. The 15 minutes often means that some guests will see you before you make your entrance unless this is well organised.

Then again, some brides don't worry about guests not seeing them early.......

I am a bit different (church) but we have been told by our celebrants to tell people 12pm and the ceremony starts at 12.30pm but then Father Michael like everyone to have a wee practising of the singing to try and get the crowd going as he puts it....

Our wedding is 1pm, but we're putting 12.30 on the invites because:

    1. We'll be arriving at 12.30 and if people want to see us arrive they'll need to be there before us. It would be a shame if they missed the fantastic car!

    2. Once we have arrived the guests will have to be escorted to the ceremony room, which will take 15-20 minutes.

    3. We'll be having the door locked to keep weirdos and gatecrashers out once we have arrived.

But it's up to you, not many people are late for weddings, except the bride of course.

I had a think about and you know your friends and family.... my mum would probably be late for her own funeral which is why i am going to try and convince my mum she needs to be there early to welcome my side of the family in the hope i am not sat outside waiting for her to turn up!
