Clashing colours?

Bathsheeba, 4 April, 2012 at 20:55 Posted on Planning 0 7

Having a real headache trying to decide on colour schemes. Basically I want black chair covers with red sashes. The issue is my hubby isn't speaking up about anything that he wants at this wedding and I think it's because (like many men) he realises that I will want it decorated my way. While this is somewhat true it's OUR wedding, not MINE and I want him to be involved and have things that he loves too.

I'm not overly fond of the colour purple, yet he adores it. My favourite colour is red. I'm more than happy to encorporate purple into the wedding so he has HIS thing too but I'm worried the red and purple will clash.

Can I mix black, red and purple without it looking tacky? Just so we're clear, I like hot red, like the below picture.

THAT red would really clash imo...

However, if you went for a more burgundy red and dusky deep purple, i think it could look lovely

Well I've thought about having black chair covers and the above red sashes, with purple vanda orchid & peacock feather centrepieces. Everything else might be in a plain colour or stick to the black feel, so that it's not overkill on the bright colours, and they're just accents.

In theory Red and Purple are Harmonising colours, in that they blend well and match well BUT they have to be the same tones, as in the flower images above. Remember that rule and you should be ok

We are having red as our main colour with a hint of purple. Our bridesmaids will be in red but the flowers and decorations will be red, purple and ivory. I wasn't sure at first but the idea came from a florist and when she showed us flowers together in those colours they looked lovely.

I agree - the purple would have to be a red based purple & then I think it would look lovely - I'm not sure cadbury purple would go for example. I've seen a lot of red & purple bouquets & they are really nice.

I have tried the navy blue dresses and the groomsmen had black tuxes. It looked great. I would also like to have Fall colors but I am afraid they would clash with my fiance's reddish orange hair.
