Cleaning a shower screen

Ostrich, 23 January, 2009 at 14:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Following on from Sophie's more exciting thread, what do you use to get your shower screen really clean? I know we live in a hard water area, but it's ridiculously difficult to get it clean. I've tried Cilit Bang, Flash spray with bleach, etc but it's not getting the limescale marks off. Any tips?

    Cif cream again!?

If you use a scourer (greeny) it wont scratch the screen. Use lots and really rub it in. Rinse off and tah dah!

I have this infuriating problem. I find that using LimeLite with a scourer and then making sure I dry the clean screen with a towel after cleaning works.

I just use normal bleach , it is the only thing that gets it properly clean

? Careful doing that. If you mix cleaning products, you can get toxic gas released!

White vineagar in a spray bottle, then one of those window wiper things after each use. If you can be bothered.

This is so boring but I'm so glad someone asked! I can never get shower screens cleaned....but I have just moved to a flat with a shower curtain instead. That solves that problem.

AWT fresh and green bathroom cleaner and limescale remover rubbed over the screen with an old body puff to lift the limescale, then top to bottom with a window blade thing (like the window cleaners use)

Perfect results every time (well, depending on your skill with the window blade!)

I only wish my cleaners did it this way

I use (or rather the cleaner uses) Limelight spray but the best tip I have for keeping it clear is get one of those shower squeegies(sp) - you know like window cleaners use and every time you have a shower just get all the excess water off and it doesn't dry on the glass so much. You can get Good Grip ones for £7.50 or John Lewis do some for £2.50 (but not as good as the Good Grip one IMHO).

    Viakal spray, it's amazing stuff.

I don't have a screen anymore but Viakal was the only thing that worked on the ridiculously hard water we had when we lived in Harlow.

I use a mixture of white vinegar and water, which is very effective (I also soak the shower head in the mixture too, from time to time, and it degunks nicely).

    The downside?

Your bathroom smells like a chipper on a Saturday night.
