Coaches...

Ladies (and the odd gent!),

If you booked buses for your wedding party to arrive at the venue, how did you go about doing this? We have no idea how many people would require a bus and therefore have no idea if the amount that would like a bus would justify paying for one. Do we say a bus will be available and just pay for it in the hope that a few will want it or do we say that it is dependant upon numbers - if so, did you then send a follow up telling them if the bus is definitely running? What happens then if the bus doesn't run, what if some people are dependant upon the bus to come to the wedding and then back out?

Anybody having the same dilemna?

Yes completely! We're looking at a venue that is the next town over so a 30 minute drive away so am thinking guests might say 'it's too far' / 'i don't want to drive'

Am having completely the same issues as you, plus are we expected to pay? I've seen coaches at 2 weddings and one funded it and one didn't and everyone paid a few quid each. I didn't mind as it was miles cheaper than a cab!

I dont have this problem luckily!! But I did think about it in the event that I did....

My idea was that I would write that bus is available and state on invites that you need to know if they require the transport and then hire the bus depending on the numbers you have confirmed. You can then either get a mini-bus if not many people need transport, a smaller coach or large coach etc...

In our case we know at least 30 people we be on the coach- and we have asked others to tell us when they RSVP just in case we need a bigger one (but I doubt it).

Our group will meet at the reception (getting there however they want), get on bus, go to church, get back on bus and go back to reception.

It is around a 40 minute journey up and down the M6 so providing transport was a priority for us- we will also be making sure they don't get hungry with a snack pack of sorts!

Any other questions just ask- hope the above makes sense!

We put on a bus (well two actually haha) which started out at the reception venue and took guests to the ceremony and back again. If you only take people between ceremony and reception then some people will be left stranded at the end of the night if they drove to the ceremony and have ended up at the reception.

There wasn't much parking at the ceremony venue, so we put that in our invitations and said we were putting on buses. Pretty much everyone used it, except for the couple of people who lived closer to the ceremony venue and a few people who travelled in on public transport (then took the bus back to the reception, then public transport home again).

I'm worrying about this as we are planning on paying for coach there and back, all in one venue. But I don't wanna be left paying and no one using it ? I don't mind paying as our venue is considerably cheaper than those closer so will still be saving money.
