Cocktail help

jen-lou, 6 March, 2015 at 13:47 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

I've not been on much recently, I popped by earlier in the week and managed to stumble on on the latest "you are mean as you don't agree with what i'm saying" posts. so hope everyone's doing ok ?.

Anyway, back to my point, i'm having the girls round next week and i'm cooking Chinese food this time and was looking for a cocktail to go with it, I have found lychee martini, but i'm not too sure what that would be like, has anyone else tried it? Is lychee one of those things that a required taste? or, has anyone got any other ideas for cocktails that would be suitable or would work/

?

Ooh, I generally think lychees are disgusting but lychee liqueur is amazing! I love that you're doing that, so cute! Something with sake would also be good

I think a lychee martini would work. In my mind Lychee are very sweet, though i may be wrong, I only remember them coming out the tin so that could be the syrup!? I don't think it's too much of an acquired taste, if I remember rightly?

A Singapore Sling, of course is NOT Chinese, but it's Asian... and I LOVE a Singapore Sling!

I always try and get the cocktail to match the food, last time it was mexican and frozen peach margaritas (and one hell of a hang over! ha)

I've seen the lychee martini recipe and they look ok, but think anything Asian influenced would be good, oooohh didnt even think of sake....

(if the food choices would help im doing this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1758666/chinese-braised-beef-with-ginger with steamed rice and bok choi with oyster sauce and chilli, and possibly another dish, a chicken one, but i'm unsure yet, plus prawn crackers te he he)

    Hmm...with ginger....

Ok, so so far I have got a couple to pick from, votes much appreciated (I will tell you what it was like afterwards, and how bad the hangover was too! ha)

    1. Lychee Martini (vodka, lychee liqueur & dash of lime)

    2. Jade martini (malibu, midori & pineapple juice)

    3. Autumn Moon (sake, cassis liqueur & lime)

    3. White Mountain (sake, peach liqueur & lime)

    4. Pretty princess (sake, peach liqueur & cranberry)

    5. this doesn't have a name and is a bit of a wild card, malibu, lime, ginger beer, coriander ?

    What you think??

Ooh, I've cooked that and it's gorgeous. Would say though, we really didn't think it needed that much star anise!

The one with no name sounds really .... interesting! I want to try it! Not a fan of Malibu, but I guess in an asian flavoured drink it would be prefect.

Went out to a lovely new Thai place in Manc the other night, had this cocktail:

oh my god it was AMAZE! I always think though that Thai is a lot lighter and more fragrant, a little zinggier than Chinese - so not sure the fresh flavours would go. Nope, I'd say go with the Lychee.

Ok, the lychee martini has won. I will have to try the random outsider cocktail with no name at some point as I'm intrigued.

Will let you know how it goes.

On the hunt to find the perfect lychee martini recipe, I found a lychee cosmo one (pretty much the same ingredients as the martini put with added cranberry juice, there was the option to use grapefruit juice but wasn't sure about that one).

Thought the cosmo one might be a bit better or we will all be a bit sloshed before we end up eating anything, ?
