Cocktail Hour....?

MTarpleigh-BrokeB2B, 27 June, 2013 at 22:20 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi All,

I haven't stopped by in a while but I'm in full wedding mode at the moment with 100 days to go!

Does anyone have any advice on cocktail hours? I feel a bit bad as we're not having an open bar (although guests will receive a glass of bubbly on arrival). Also, I think that there should be nibbles to hand (I've never been to a cocktail hour which didn't provide food) but H2B thinks it's a waste of time and money as people will be eating a full 3 course meal at the wedding breakfast an hour later!

I agree with him to an extent but I think it would be nice to offer SOMETHING, even if it's just nibbly bits.

Any advice?

Cocktail hour is more of an American thing its not very common in the UK.

Commonly in the UK you serve canapes during the drinks reception. Although we are having nibbles because we are having canapes in the evening.

Snap ! We are doing an drink after ceremony *bubbly * ( elderflower for non drinkers ) and then we are doing another glass of bubbly for the toasts and jugs of squash for the kids!

We couldn't afford canapés on top of all the stuff we've paid for like Choc fountains , candy floss , sweets , pizzas in the evening ...

I don't think many people expect free booze at weddings these days x

Yes to nibbles! If you can bring your own in as well you could do it very cheaply, as in olives, nuts, Japanese rick crackers, etc

Cocktail hour is a US thing, I've never seen it here. Usually you get a welcome drink, some wine on the table and a toast drink. I've only been to one wedding with a free bar.
