Collected my dress today - who wants a *flash*?

pandorasbox, 2 August, 2012 at 18:10 Posted on Planning 0 13

The dress shop have made a few marks on the dress, but I am remarkably unbothered by it. There is a loose crystal which seems very obvious to me as I look down on it, but from the front isn't really noticeable. There are also some pin marks, a tiny tiny faint dark ink mark and a bit of an orange (make up?) mark on the front, so at first I wasn't too happy but now am just not fussed. There is nothing the shop will do about it now, as mum signed for it when she collected it and the shop was quite dull when she checked it over, plus the marks are all near pleats so are sort of hidden by that and the shadow of the pleats so nothing to worry about.

I know only I will notice, OH definitely won't, my guests won't unless they are being as picky as me, and I know the TOG will focus on other elements so am not worried. I feel annoyed that my mum has paid a small fortune and it has arrived in that state, so may deal with it after the wedding, but for the moment I am so not bothered - which is very unlike me as I can get very OCD on the small things and super critical!

After we took these pics of me in the dress we realised it was riding a bit low, so on the day will be pulled up higher with the corset done a bit tighter to keep it up. I was worried about the fat lumpy bits on my back, but the good ladies of 2012 fb group have reassured me it all looks fine so am feeling more confident and also pretty much 'who cares?' about it.

Aaaw wow!! Beautiful dress! If you are going to take the faults up with the shop after the wedding then I would contact them now (email) and say that now you've had the chance to check it in a better light you've seen some faults that you're not happy about but you know its too late to physically do anything about it now so would they be willing to offer a small refund as a goodwill gesture. I doubt you'll get much more than about £50-£100 because the marks aren't massive, but like you say it isn't perfect. Either way it is stunning, love that starburst beading!xx

Thanks. I's the one my nail is next to - all the others are sequins/beads that are facing outwards, whereas that one is loose so is facing down and resting on the bead, and all the thread on that section is quite loose. The deign of the dress means it is impossible to tighten the thread or glue it or anything so we are just hoping that the thread is loose but not about to come out of the stitching or off completely.

Vintage - you're right, I don't feel there is much point in contacting the shop as they looked at it, my mum looked at it and there was nothing to be seen at the time. Mum then signed the forms. I am fairly certain they will just say once she signed the disclaimer stating we took responsibility and were removing it from the shop, then we could have made the marks/pulls ourselves. I don't think we would even get any goodwill gesture from them, so not sure if there is any point in bothering.

    You look absolutely lovely.

Yes, annoying about the faults but great that you're not too bothered.

    I would send the email.

Decided to call up after all, simply to log the problems if nothing else. The shop immediately said to go back so we rijiggled all our job list for today, went back to town and they spot cleaned the stains and steamed the pin holes til they disappeared, and also stitched the loose thread (and I found another 2 loose ones as well which they also sorted).

So glad I posted here and decided to inform them even if I was unphased!

Glad you went back. A good reminder that we shouldn't be intimidated by these wedding suppliers who take big chunks of our money!
