Colour Scheme Confusion!!

laura_c86, 12 December, 2008 at 22:12 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi ladies!

I need somebody else's opinion (as h2b doesn't understand why we need a "theme", let alone pick one!)

I had decided on an ivory, powder blue and silver colour scheme, but I was recently looking at the pictures of our venue and now I'm not so sure that this will work. I still can't post pictures (lord knows I've tried) so here is a link https://www.hitched.co.uk/venues/venuedetail.aspx?ID=525 The room with the staircase is the ceremony room.

I know I don't need to worry too much just yet, but I'm just trying to gather ideas at the moment and would like to know what others think before I start booking.

Thanks x

I personally wouldnt let a venue dictate a colour to me but its up to you. I've looked at the picture and yes, 'grand' colours would work nicely but do these sort of rich colours work with the season you're getting married in??? I have chosen colours that not only match the OH tartan but a colour that my BM's will suit. I wouldnt dare make them wear a colour because I liked it/matches with the flowers/wallpaper.

just explain to your OH that a colour just brings everything together, whether it be oufits or flowers. Our theme is actually the 40s which is more important than any colour (which was just a coincidental choice as its in his tartan)

Why did you choose the colours you originally chose?

We're getting married in Spring, so I wanted softer colours. My favourate colour is pink but OH said he didn't want a marshmellow wedding, which on reflexion is proberbly right. Plus he's a red head so I didn't want him to clash. We both like blue so decided that was the best colour to pick.

Both my BM's will look beautiful in blue, and they're having tea legnth dressess so they can always wear them again.

I just don't want the room to look tacky, do you think my colours would?

    Thanks x

I would agree with Tee hee - choose your colour theme to suit your day, not the venue. Most guests when they arrive at the venue are mainly interested in the food, where the bar is and seeing the happy couple enjoy their day. I shouldn't think for one minute they will say "Ooo, their colour scheme doesn't match the carpet" !! Blue is a beautiful colour for Springtime and if everything else fits in then go for it! If you are planning on having venue decorations, floral wise, blue is a colour which 'disappears' in large rooms anyway so it wouldn't be immediately obvious and you could keep your table decorations to ivory and silver which would go well with everything. Hope that helps.

    Hiya :-)

So excited - I actually stayed here for one night with H2B when we were moving to Scotland! It's a beautiful location (especially for photos), the staff were very helpful and the bedrooms were amazing! With regards to your colour scheme I think if you had gone for pink the bridemaids might have disappeared into the background as they would be completely matching the venue but not in a good way. I think the colours you have picked will provide a bit more of a contrast which will look beautiful. As long as you don't go OTT with the colour scheme (i.e. putting it absolutely everywhere) and maybe having Ivory as your main choice with hints of the silver and blue that could look gorgeous. Just remember though that everyone will give you opinions (including myself) but at the end of the day it's your special day so if you're happy with something then go for it! You might also be able to play around with the colours at home by setting up mock tables or decorations against a rich background? Or the hotel might even allow you to bring in some decorations to do a trial run with it during a time in the day when they're not as busy - it can never hurt to ask and at the end of the day if it's a no you still haven't lost anything but if it's a yes then you've gained something :-) I hope that you have a great time with your planning!! All the best :-)

    Hi Laura,

When are you getting married? I am getting married on 1st May 2010 and am having the same colour scheme as you! It's a good pick... both mine and my fiance's favourite colour is blue and i think pastel shades of blue in the springtime will look so pretty!

I am also have tea length dresses lol

I know what you mean about the colours of the room... thankfully the ceremony room we have chosen has blue carpet and blue velvet curtains so it fits but i think the blue and silver will work nicely with the dark wood... is it more the red carpet you are concerned about? If so i really wouldnt worry as no one will be looking at the carpet... it will be all eyes on you and you will look beautiful so i doubt the colour of the carpet would even enter anyone's head.

I do understand your concern but honestly dont worry... your venue choice is more than a colour scheme at the end of the day.

    Nicola

Thank you ladies, as usual you have been more than helpful and full of wisdom!

I really like the colours so will definately stick to them now.

Aussie bride I can't believe you've stayed there, I'm glad you have good things to say about the place. It's always nice to hear peoples own experiences of a place, rather than just a few "chosen" reviews.

Thanks again lovely girlies, happy planning ❤️
