Colour Scheme & Flowers - advice needed please! *Includes flashes!!*

EAC13, 11 January, 2013 at 18:52 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi ladies,

Looking for another bit of advice. Some of you may remember me asking about colour schemes to match my fiance's tartan. Well, turns out to match it, it would need to be red or green - I'm not into either. I quite like teal though. I think I'd get away with it but what do you think? Then another problem arises - what flowers do I have? Do I need just ivory (as my dress is ivory) or can I get away with a wee bit of colour? I've attached some photos to give you an idea - the bridesmaid dresses I'm looking at, the grooms outfit (don't worry, we know the kilt needs alterations since my fiance has now lost weight!) and various flower arrangements which I quite like. Please, if you have any alternative ideas, feel free to flash me them! Now, let's see if I can find out how to flash these images properly!!

Thanks a lot x

Hi if im totally honest my immediate reaction was that it doesnt go, i think maybe a bootle green dress or maybe a neutral colour i think those colours clash, but the flowers are lovely but as i said before maybe a bottle/dark green instead.x

Im not going to quote as the thread will end up huge!

I think you will certainly get away with the teal and the kilt, is your OH going to wear the red cravat too?

As for the flowers the cream ones with the tiny teal pins in the middle look lovely, just subtle enough to pick out the dress.

Forgot to say that the groom, best man and usher will all have different tartans (and I mean completely different). Not sure if that makes a difference or not! See I worry about the clash too, I just really don't like any other green or red. So stuck!

What about thistle in your flowers as a nod to the scottish heritage?

I'm undecided about whether the teal goes with the tartan to be completely honest. I think it's because it's two rich deep colours competing with each other.

What about your BM's in a more neatral colour?

Ot (if the gents will) could they wear a standardised colour tartan? My friend married a Scotsman and instead of the family tartan he worse one that was all shades of grey and black. It meant she could have a bolder colour BM dress? They may not agree to that though?

I'm liking the idea of a pop of colour in the ivory flower bouquet, that's a definitely yes, and also liking someone's thistle idea, which leads me to suggest thistle purple theme? I'd worry about it clashing with the red but I feel like it must've been done before in Scotland lol tbh I'm not feeling teal with tartan... sorry :s

If all the gents are in different tartans, I think maybe a neutral cream colour for the maids and perhaps thistles mixed in with your bouquet. I'm also feeling a bit of a clash in colours with the teal too Smiley sad Sorry.... One of the bouquets you've chosen is one of mine though! The next to the last!

My first reaction was that they don't go together - I think maybe if the dress was a darker blue (like the blue in the kilt). Or, as others have said, if they wear neutral colours and you could incorporate teal in the flowers somehow.

Thanks for all your comments. No need to be sorry, your honest opinions are exactly what I was looking for. I haven't ordered anything relating to my colour scheme yet so it's not like I can't change anything. I would be a little worried about neutral colours though because my two bridesmaids are relatively pale skinned and both have dark hair. I wasn't sure if I could get away with the teal because the groom, best man and usher are all wearing different tartans (one red based, one grey/purple and then my OH) so wasn't sure if it really mattered whether the bridesmaids matched the grooms kilt because ultimately, out of three different kilts, the dresses aren't going to match all three anyways...if that makes sense! Not having the kilts match doesn't bother me in the slightest because it's their own tartan. Thanks again x

Apologies also to Rainbow Florist for copying the photo of your flowers into this thread, I think they're beautiful and was delighted when I found a picture of what I had imagined in my head!

Love the teal....! It's the colour I'm thinking of having for my colour scheme so it gets thumbs up from me lol. Do you mind me asking where you found the bridesmaid dress, as it's just what I'm looking for?

Katianne, it's Alfred Angelo 7016 in tealness. Apparently the strap is very easily taken off (one of my bridesmaids like it with and one likes it without) x

So ladies, I went with the teal and flowers similar to the first picture. OH, the best man and usher are getting different kilts. His decision, not mine so I don't feel bad Smiley smile thanks for all the advice!
