Colour scheme stresssssssss

Therunningbride, 13 September, 2014 at 11:29 Posted on Planning 0 15

I am really struggling to choose a colour scheme, I'm a country girl we live in a little village in devon getting married in the local church etc so my favourite colour is definitely green BUT I do t like to follow the trends and green especially sage is everywhere at the minute so now we are stuck!!! I hate red, blue etc I don't want anything that's going to look "vintage" as that's another trend I can't stand, we want clean, simple and classy but I'm being out off green!!! We like a pale apricot but I'm thinking that the venue could look a bit 80's decked out in apricot? Lol oh I am struggling big time, any opinions good or bad are welcomed!!!! X

If u want to stay away from the vintage look and have clean lines then how about sticking to mainly white or Ivory with hints of something like silver or black....can look really beautiful and very modern. Agree that u probably want to avoid any sort of pastel colours....also agree apricot could look a bit 80's!

Or if you really like green then you could go for a much more vibrant green, kind of tree/leaf green. If you live in a village then you could think of it as bringing the outdoors indoors a bit, but still keep clean lines and a modern feel.

    Good luck!

Ok, first of all, breathe. When are you getting married? You don't HAVE to have 1 colour. Are you having bridesmaids? What colour would suit them? Mine would look awful in pale colours. We've gone for teal and hot pinks. Trends etc don't matter a jot, if you like it, do it! Why not mix a few colours? A deep green bridesmaid dress would look great with peaches and apricot flowers for example. Then your venue decorations could mix shades of green and apricot, or whatever you choose.

If you want green, how about bright green. Either with simple black bridesmaids dresses or bright green dresses and simple white flowers. I love this loo. Its very sleek and modern but still pretty. I thought this would be what I went for but it did not go with my country house venue with painted ceelings etc. I will try and post some pics but my tablet can be temperamental.

There are only so many colours out there so unless you're inventing a new one, somebody somewhere will be having the same colours at their wedding that you are! That said, it's what you do with those colours that make them unique to you and you're wedding. If you love green, have green and make it yours. The style of dresses you have for your BM's are likely to be different than any other wedding you go to in the next year as there is SO much choice out there. The style of flowers, the colour of your grooms men's ties, the colour of ribbon on your invites will all be special to you because these things are what you picked for your wedding. I really don't think your guests are going to worry that you're just following a trend - they'll be too busy enjoying themselves at your wonderful wedding and commenting on how beautiful you look. xx

If you love green, then go with it. It doesn't matter if the colour is all the rage at the moment, it's only because tons of people love it, as well as you.

I can only imagine apricot will look 80's if you fill your wedding with frills...

I like the picture of the slate/green/white colours in one of the comments, I think that looks lovely, and it can look very crisp and clean without looking vintage.

Please don't ditch your fave colour just because lot's of other couples have it, your wedding will still be as unique as you Smiley smile

I wanted clean and simple lines for my dinner table, have a look at green glass wear and don't rule out bespoke it's not much more expensive

What about a mint green? Or a really bright green? Or if you want to keep it plain, what about a champagne colour?

I'm one who doesn't like the idea of following trends, but kind of realised that who cares as long as I like it, too. It makes it easier to find things to match! I agree on the idea of using a more vibrant 'outdoorsy' green as an alternative and muting it a bit with neutral whites or greys Smiley smile

Do you need to have a dominant colour?

If you're rustic and country could you use lots of hessian and twine etc. for the table decorations and then just pick a colour you like for your bridesmaids???

A chocolate brown with hint of green always looks nice. I'm not a green lover (probably because I have red hair!) but recently went to a wedding with mojito green and it was lovely. Go for what u like xx

    What about hunter green?

A wedding I went to earlier this year had hunter green BM dresses, with the men having matching hunter green ties. They then didnt have much other 'detail' as such, keeping it simple & classy.

I'm having sage green as my colour scheme but am actually struggling to find things in the colour so I don't think it's as popular as you think! I'm getting married in Octobeer so I want a autumnal rustic feel. I''m having sage green with a more neutral champagne colour with wooden centrepieces and lots of hessian and lace. Most wedding related things are overdone but you only realise that when you start planning. You're guests won't notice/realise as they haven't spent the past 2 years wedding planning like we have!! I say if you like something then go for it!!

You could try an olive green & have it with a Mediterranean feel maybe. Or just keep it with white to keep it fresh & simple.

Green is a classic colour and there are so many variations of it, if you wanted it to stay clean and fresh, white would probably be best, you could go for a almost 'grey green' if that makes sense?

Or how about 2 variations of a green? Does it have to be just one?

Personally, I think just go with whatever colours you love, if they're classed as on trend or not, it's your special day so you need to be happy with what you pick.

    Good luck, let us know!
