Colour Schemes

lindsay.jeffries, 17 April, 2012 at 16:20 Posted on Planning 0 27

Hi Everyone,

This is my very first time at starting a post but am in need of advice. I'm struggling to set a definate colour scheme for our wedding. I'm not getting married for 2 years but think the colour will set me off in the right direction to start organising everything. The one colour I seem to like at the minute is Navy blue with maybe green and ivory however keep changing my mind. Haha. What is everyone else having at their wedding?

I think navy is a brilliant colour for a wedding because it goes with almost any other colour. I am probably going with black and tiffany blue, but that could all change! Will be waiting to see the venue first before we make the final choice.

Have you chosen your dress or anything yet? I found it much easier to be decisive about colour once my venue and dress was chosen as I knew what sort of style for the decor etc that would suit with everything.

Eg my venue is new build so modern elements but it's traditional in its nature and has a lot of exposed stonework and wooden beams so a very natural feel and my dress is quite romantic looking so bright, harsh colours/flowers eg bright pink gerberas wouldn't have worked. I have a sapphire and diamond engagement ring so I've gone for bridesmaid dresses that are almost identical colour to my ring, ivory dress and then going to have soft pink and ivory/cream flowers and table decorations to tie everything in.

    Hi,

I'm going to look at a venue tomorrow. I know its available and its very old (Sheffield City Hall) so full of ideas to match. I like the sound of all of the colours above haha. SO much to look at. I haven't tried any dresses on but got a lot of ideas on that front. Not sure when to start booking appointments with it been over two years away still. x

Purple and ivory with a bit of silver here and there.

I didn't realise how common/popular it was though, but purple is my favourite colour so I guess I would of gone for it anyway...

I should probably add that my OH is very happy with a blue and white colour scheme as he supports Blackburn Rovers and those are the colours they play in

I am getting married in Santorini so decided to have a sort greek theme, but with a little twist to the wedding so my colour scheme is blue (the Santorini church dome blue) and yellow with hints of bright pink (my fave colour) Smiley smile i have 3 of my bridesmaids in bright pink and the MOH in the same dress but yellow and deciding weather to have my flower girl in a white dress with yellow detail or blue detail. I am planning on having mainly blue, yellow and white in my bouqet but with flashes of hot pink flowers! xx xx

I'm wearing a deep red/burgundy dress, with antique gold embroidery and my sister (MOH) is wearing a deep purple sari. So I'm having deep purple and gold chair sashes and most of the decor will incorporate those 2 colours. Flowers will be deep purple and deep red with a bit of gold. it's not very Spring-y (I get married in 12 days) but hopefully it'll look nice and fit in with the style if the building we're getting married in...

My Wedding is two and a bit years away but we've chosen dark purple and ivory. We both agree and like it and it allows us to look at invites, dresses, decorations etc.You need to have a colour that you both like that you want get sick of looking at!!

    Hi Lindsay,

I'm in Sheffield so hi! (waves) City Hall would be lovely. We've just begun too, i'm a little overwhelmed at the moment. Booked our venue on Friday and booked the registrar. We are getting married at Carlton Towers which is Victorian Gothic and very in your face so currently (this may change!) i wanting cream.

i like pink but feeling very simple-haha! at the moment so just want cream sash, candelabra centrepieces, white rose bouqets etc...

Tell me what the City Hall is like as a wedding venue when you've visited xx

We are having purple as it is the colour of the dress my bm wore for her prom and cost a fortune so she's getting another wear out of it, luckily, I like purple.

Had I picked it myself I think I would have gone for teal, thats my fave at the mo!

We are going for the Peacock theme as well! Mixing this with a warm pinky / purple.

However the colour might change between now and next September!

Keep me in mind if you are going to be selling anything after the wedding

We're having a purple and yellow scheme...dark purple with bright yellow flowers for the BM, lilac with primroses for my flower girl.

It was difficult to sell it to my mother, but have had my heart set on dark purple and bright yellow since seeing some flowers in a supermarket when I was 19 and I was adamant.

We're going sage green as the main colour. My dress will hopefully be white as I think ivory will look quite yellow next to the green, but I'll have to check. And decorations on the tables will have a little bit of silver in their too. Men are going black trousers/jackets with sage waistcoats.

I kinda narrowed it down by wanting a colour no one else has had. My aunt had dark purple, cousin's light purple, blue, and gold (which I ruled out yellow because of this too), and BIL2B had dark blue too. My work uniform is a terracotta orange so I didn't want the same as that. My parents had peach (many many many years ago!). I personally don't like pink, and I didn't really like red for a wedding. This narrowed it down to green, and as we're getting married in March I thought of pastel colours, but I liked quite a dark pastel green which turned out to be sage ?

    Hi Mel and to Pinkerbell,

I went to see the City Hall yesterday and I don't think words can describe how amazing the venue is. The ballroom is out of this world and fell in love with it all as soon as I stepped inside. Think navy blue now is def the way forward with maybe ivory and bits of green. They are so accomodating as well so anything is possible. xx

    Hey!

    I thought this could help:

    http://www.favorideas.com/wedding-themes/themes-by-color/meanings-of-colors-in-weddings/

Me and H2B used this to help us make the final decision on our wedding colours.
Were having White & Red with a hint of black.
