Colourful flowers? Have I lost it?

Elixia, 2 November, 2013 at 22:05 Posted on Planning 0 39

I'm one of those dreaded 'purple wedding' brides and to top it off a coloured two tone dress!!! The dress has a lavender bust and back ? Now since wedding planning I've heard sooo much advise from people finding for me; purple invites, purple dresses, purple ribbon, sashes, favours, flowers the list goes on! Okay, yes i like purple, I also like chocolate but i think a diet of nothing BUT chocolate its a bad thing! In rebellion to this I have come to bluntly (but politely) shooting down people mid-sentence when saying they're found a purple so and so. Thou i did resign a little to a purple 'ombre' idea in some areas of the design. So on to flowers. Since there's a light purple in my god-awful dress that i first thought of a purple, light blue and white arrangement. But finding ideas and images for this on the web had left me 'meh' But when i see those bright colourful flowers, I'm in heaven! But I've figured they were more of a summer wedding and i'm a late winter/early spring bride or they'll clash with the dress and other excuses.

But looking at some purple weddings today and I snapped. Cadbury's purple flowers and white flowers simply are too ... not me!!

I mean the invites have purple BUT that because the original game boy advance was purple (fitting huh?) and yes the BM's dresses and cavarts are too But its gonna end there! the table plan is currently (until we change our mind AGAIN) is a mario overworld, so mainly green and blue, favor chest boxes are white like the SS Zelda chests. And the flowers make such a large impact on the look since they'll be the main centrepieces, bouquets and buttonholes. I've let the colour thing get a touch out of hand and dictate the aspects of the wedding to a point I'm uncomfortable! I should be picking things I like! one chance right? So these are what I'm drooling over, am i nuts?

Love love love those flowers and though really well with the purple. Better than ivory/one colour flowers would do, I think. Makes it seem a little more "edgy". I wish I'd chosen something bright like this. Always thought I would but have instead gone with pastels for my retro theme. Damn.

Edgy? yes please! The venue has a lot of colour going on too so it does suit. The thing that originally sparked my doubt on the wedding flowers was my OH. He bought me a bouquet of bright multi colored flowers because i had a rough week and said he picked them because it was 'very me' I loved them and it got me thinking.

My florist may or may not like the fact the game has completely changed Smiley winking

I love those flowers. Screw the theme! I supposedly have a purple theme (because FMIL said I had to have a theme and the only thing I came up with is my favourite colour is purple) the only things that will be purple is my chair sashes and my bridesmaid dress, everything else is very mismatched. My real theme is 'things that we like' which are very eclectic. Go for it if it makes you happy.

Soooo pretty!!! We're having purple but don't want cadburys purple everywhere, hoping for lots of different shades of purple ranging from pinky to blue-y purples. Do you not like your dress btw??

I think you should go for it. Those pictures look amazing. I love succulents and am having them in my flowers as well but any of those with look stunning.

It is too easy to get carried away with trying to get everything to match your theme. Just go with what you love!

No, you've not lost it at all! They're all fabulous bouquets and compliment purple superbly. Mixing colours is very 'in' at the moment. Here's a few I've done this year - two of them belong to lovely Hitchers too but I'm sure they won't mind me flashing! :-

well i was dreaming about these flowers last night so I'm gonna show these sample to my florist and get her input on it. OH likes them (more or less, top left he isn't keen on) but these colours make me happy! glad they're a hit!

Without realising this pic was from rainbow florist I pinched it from a google search & gave to a florist near me who was recommended by hitchers (and is a supplier on here) who is re-creating it with real flowers but with slight changes (gyp instead of the white bobbly flowers etc).

If I were you, I'd go to a florist and show them pics and they can help you decide what flowers to have and chop and change flowers to suit your budget... That's what Marilyn did for me.

We are go! She's gonna have a look at what available for early march since some of these are summer flowers. but colour wise she said she can do it easy. I'm hoping I can have the ranunculus and billy balls. those are my favorite ones.
