Colours and Theme

sazelbean, 18 January, 2009 at 14:21 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi Everyone

This is my forst time using a forum so i hope this works! I have just booked my wedding for Feb next year and am now starting to think about colours and themes which i want deciding before i send out my save the date cards. My fella likes black and white, as do i but am worried it might be too cold and harsh so i suggested chocolate and cream as a softer alternative but am now worried this looks too much like my front room!!

What colours have other people gone for?? i always liked red but as its february i don;t want it all hearts and valentines theme. I have fairly contempory tastes and fancied soemthing different to the norm but colour worries me!!

Please help!

    Hey

    Welcome to hitched!

If you are after ideas for colour themes etc there are loads of hibs on here who can help.

We are having a black and white theme for our wedding this july and it doesn't look cold at all. The flowers are lovely soft shapes - roses, hydrangeas and germini (baby gerbera) with ivy in black vases. My bridesmaids are wearing black and various other bits are black.

i think it's quite a classy colours scheme and actually has encouraged all my friends to really get dressed up. You could always tie the colour scheme with a theme like New York, or James Bond, it depends on your venue too.

Anyway what else have you done for your wedding?

Ours was in February and we had Gold and Ivory. Both you have mentioned sound nice.

    Hello, and welcome to hitched!

I chose my colour scheme by going with the colours in my OH's tartan, could you do something like that or maybe colours which will tie in with your venue?

Black and white is very classy and easy to cater for, I think you could have so much fun with it. If I had chosen a B&W colour scheme I would have had a hollywood movies theme. Incidentally my colour scheme is blue with a 1940s theme, lol.

needless to say, a colour is enough of a theme for most people usually!

    Hi and welcome to Hitched!

You'll find that you'll get great help and advice over the next year on hitched!

The first thing I do when I am looking at possible colour schemes is look at the room that your reception will be in, What colour are the walls, carpets, curtains and chairs. Use this as the base for your scheme to ensure they don't clash.

Black and white is a great scheme and can be used at any time of the year. I have a wedding in 2010 where we are having a black and white theme and I've introduced a Damask pattern to the theme. We will use this for the stationery, table runners and cake and that's it as it's quite powerful. The rest of the details will be tied in just in black and white items.

Also, look at your wedding party and their colourings and see if they will suit your colour ides eg a red head wouldn't look great in bright pink, same as a English rose wouldn't look as good in a bright red as say a pale green,

    HI!

    Welcome to hitched ?

Just to say we are also having a cream and chocolate theme, and i think its lovely. We did think about black and white, as I am soooooo not a pink girly, and the other half is very contemporary, but in the end wanted something a little warmer, as we're getting married in October.

We are also introducing some burnt copper in a few places to really play up the autumn colours.

Saying all that, go with what you and H2B wants! Its your wedding, do what makes you both happy.❤️

    Thanks everyone!

I think i'm coming round to the idea of black and white. Looked at a few examples and i think your right, it can look classy and elegant. Think i might have to add a small splash of colour but it like the idea of a full on theme. I'm thinking black tie, candles on tables, dark metalic grey drapes, a splash of red, maybe miniture rose trees......

    So much to think about!

Am lucky i think as wedding party fairly small with only my sister as bm so not masses of people to please and have people in family who are doing invites, flowers, table centres so can really go to town on personalising everything.

    will keep you posted
