Colours - having a nightmare!

rainforest7sparkle, 14 January, 2014 at 11:17 Posted on Planning 0 5

I chose and bought the bridesmaid dresses a while ago which are a dark blue. I have arranged the flowers with the florist and am having pink and blue in my bouquet and the buttonholes are blue thistles. My fiance has just bought his suit which is a dark brown/grey with a check through it. He absolutely loves it and wouldn't consider anything else. I'm having problems coordinating the colours. He doesn't like to wear white shirts so wants to wear a black shirt. He has tried some blue ties to tie in the blue of the bridesmaids and buttonholes but it just doesn't look right at all. We think the best colour tie to match the suit/shirt/shoes is a burgundy colour. If he does this then he can't wear a blue thistle can he as it will be too many colours going on!? Also will the burgundy tie look awful in the photographs with the pink in my bouquet? Looks like I might have to change the buttonholes. Or should he change the shirt colour? Aargh!! I am so confused!! My dress was so easy, I had it picked in half an hour! Any suggestions?

^ same... tell him everyone has to make sacrafices

I think the groom should be as important as the bride in picking something thats them but if the color scheme is agreed on and bought why should everything else change - a blue shirt can look nice, maybe go for a dark navy (its the next closest color to black)

can you post a picture of the suit it may help

I may not be a favourite person after this, but this is his day too and he should be able to wear what ever he likes if he is comfortable and that is how he wants to look on his wedding day. Does it really matter if the colours match? you will be married and that is the important thing. I get you'll have to look at the photos for ever afterwards, but I'd rather see my OH looking happy and comfortable than possibly looking uncormfortable because they were made to wear something they didn't want to and their feelings weren't considered.

I haven't seen my OH outfit and wont do until the day. I doubt it will look perfect next to my 1920's vintage wedding dress and I will more than likely be the wrong colour, who cares? I'm getting married to the love of my life!!

The most important thing to me is that he is happy in what he wears. I've encouraged everyone to have free choice in outfits when they have asked me what I want but the problem is that he isn't confident in his choices so he keeps telling me to choose it for him! He doesn't really know what to put together. I think he defo needs a dark shirt as he looks great in them. It's just the rest of the colours. I'm not great at putting colours together myself so am kinda feeling under pressure to get it right coz I want him to be happy on the day in the outfit and also to be happy when he sees himself in the photos.

Maybe you should ask him to try on different colour shirts with the suit as well as with the blue thistles - take a picture of him in each of the shirt colours you might want and then put it all away. In a few days have a look at the photos together and see what you both do/don't like. Sometimes things look different in photos than when you first looked at them. But it is really important that you both feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing on the day!

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Went shopping tonight and we got burgundy ties! He looks great and is really happy. Just going to change the buttonholes.
