Comedian?

LooseLadie, 22 April, 2010 at 23:17 Posted on Planning 0 8

Just a quick question really......

Do you think it would be good to have a comedian on for half hour or so during the evening do?

Ive never been to a wedding so have no idea if this is a stupid idea!

be honest

Thanks Ladies :o)

Hi Natty, i've never come across one at a wedding & I wouldn't say its the worst idea in the world. Have you seen someone you would use? I just think they would need to be reallllly good & appeal to most/all ages, which might be difficult.

I have. I worked with one only the other week. He went on after the speeches. He's a celeb over here as he wrote and was the voice of a TV programme (only shown in NI). My partner has also done weddings where they've had a commedian. Must admit, the ones we've seen have all been well seasoned and well known over here (and probably quite expensive) and they went down really well.

    It's a NO from me...

Most comediens will swear and tell risky jokes and generally appeal to a specific nature and normally offend at least 1 person.

A wedding is a mix of ages and tastes and I couldn't imagine the older generation and the younger generation agreeing.

I know if I had a comedien that I liked, my parents and Grandma would hate it, his parents probably wouldn't find it funny (different humour to me) and most of my friends have a different taste.

I agree with GeordieBarbie. I can't bear comedians and I've never seen one go down well even at golf club functions. Definitely not for a wedding.

Id only get one if it was along the lines of sandy sounds' one ie a well known seasoned professional who would know and research the audience etc and not offend people - but on the downside this sort of calibre person would probably cost a fortune.

if you went for a cheaper one they would probably be along the lines of what GB is saying and liable to offend people.

so unless peter kay is among your best mates - id say don't do it!

Tbh, I can't see that you need anything - your guests will want to talk to you, not sit and be entertained!

BSB has a good point. It is possible to 'over entertain' and not factor in any chill out time and chat time.

Natty i was having the same dilemma as you, think about entertainment. We are thinking about a magician atm. Normally i hate anything like this, but i went to a wedding fayre and met one who was fab.

So we are now trying to decide if its too cheesy or worth the money!??
