Coming off the property ladder

Little Richie, 17 April, 2008 at 16:50 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Is anyone considering?

Our house is for sale, and our fixed term ends at the end of June. We have an appontment with the lender to discuss what we can arrange there after. We are also trying for a family, hence wanting to move to a bigger property. OH is in the army and is really up for selliing and moving into army accomodation (in Ripon) This would mean putting the profit we have made into high interest account, and paying around £150 a month in rent.I think we would do this for around a year, and heopefully whilst on maternity leave.

I'm not sure who to go to for advice.

My sister has just done this.....sold her flat and they have a baby but can't afford to upgrade (we are in Harrogate...so near you) unfortunatley her rent will be a lot more than 150 a month?

if you are strong enough to keep your money locked away and are happy to move into army accomadation then I think you probabaly have nothing lose, let the market hopefully sort its self out and only paying 150 quid a month you could probably afford to add more to your house money andcome out the other side with a nice deposit.

if you believe all the hype about house prices falling you could come out of it quite well.

My friend is considering this but doesn't like the fact it will cost them in penalty fees another 4k so might be something to consider as well

    Thanks for repling Mrs DB.

OH thinks we should do this and his reasons are regarding solely based on the housing market, and I suspect so he doesn't have to commute!?

We could upgrade here, but he thinks we will stand to get a better house for our money in a year or so.

The army accomodation is a bargain at £150, I've had a look and in Ripon it looks decent. I would definately not touch the money, and I suppose would try to save more through fear of getting used to all that extra cash. I think that's what my fear is really, we wil be so used to it and would struggle to get back on.

Thanks for your advice re fees, I will check this out.
