Concern over hair/makeup timings...Advice please

blueeyedgirl, 17 August, 2011 at 22:08 Posted on Planning 0 5

Right so wedding is at 3pm, i've got me and my mum for hair + make up, BMs x4 just for make up. all booked in ages ago...now lady has said she wants to do a friends wedding so can she come earlier to do my hair/make up. They would be doing my hair and make-up now at 8am?! then leaving, and then another lady coming to do make up at 10am for BMs. I'm just conerned this is ages to have my make up on - 6 hours before the ceremony?1 I know its wedding make up and meant to last but I think thats a v long time, surely the bride should go last so its fresher?

WWYD? Advice please? I dont really feel that happy about it...

    Hello,

Speaking from experience, I used to be a wedding make-up artist I only ever did one wedding a day and it was always protocol for me to do the bride last after the BM's as it was important the bride's make-up lasts the longest.

Usually make up is done after hair, so with that in mind you don't really need your make up starting until a lot later.

If you have had this booked for a while and don't feel comfortable with it, try to speak to the make-up artist or have your mum or a close friend do it if you don't feel comfortable. You never know she may be happy to do you after her friend instead of the other way around.

I hope you work it out.

Sounds very unprofessional. Have you paid a deposit and had written confirmation? If so I'd tell her to either do your wedding as planned, or repay the deposit to allow you to book someone else.

My MUA did mine so I was ready one hour before the wedding which was perfect. 8am is far too early for a 3pm wedding!!

I would not be pleased with that in my mind i will be getting my make up done about an hour and a half before the ceremony to look nice and fresh as you said. My make up and hair ladies are coming at 10am to do 5 bridesmaids and me and said they will be finished around 13.45.

If she is changing your booking she should be doing her friends earlier in the day not yours.

From a makeup artists point of view I this is highly unprofessional. I would only ever do 2 weddings if there were hours between them - I certainly wouldn't shunt my original brides booking around to squeeze another wedding in. If you booked her first you booking should take priority. 8am is a ridiculously early time to have your makeup done for a 3pm wedding. I would always do a brides makeup last after her hair was finished and for a 3pm wedding I would be doing your makeup at 1pm to finish at 2pm. I would also be retouching BMs and mums makeup before I went. Is it too late to find another mua? Where do you live? I might be able to recommend someone. Juliet x
