    Fab thread!

I don't understand the fuss about - spending a fortune on shoes (which on most brides nobody sees), flowers (on the morning of my wedding me and my mum went to the local florist and got a lovely bouquet made up for a tenner! lol), the cake, a dress (some cheaper dresses look stunning), in fact-spending an absolute fortune on all the little bits, DIY invites, favours etc are so much more personal.

I secretly hate - Wedding etiquette, who should sit where etc, I dont want my mum sat next to my Hs Dad, she will sit next to my brother who is giving me away. I know theres more to put here but I cant for the life of me think right now. Couples who arent religeous getting married in a church (also applies to getting their kids christened in one!)

I secretly love- That even though Ive been married for 18 months Im going to plan a day to celebrate with all my family and friends. My mum (although thats no secret) who has paid some money towards our wedding meal so I can invite all my cousins. Table planning--think I enjoy the challenge haha! Looking at other peoples photos and videos (they always make me blub!) Cheesy wedding discos. Cheesy disco songs (esp Chain reaction and In the Navy!) The songs everyone gets up and does the dance for-macarena, locomotion etc Hehe Smiley smile

Hmm theres loads more Ill probably add x

    loving this!

I don't understand the fuss about - matching colours and colour schemes - i hate bright colours

I secretly hate - overcrowded brides - beaded/lacey dress, necklace, earrings, tiara, veil, maybe even a shrug or shawl - arrrgghhhh - pick one!

I secretly love - knowing that my hen do is just going to be all my favourite girls in a room together, and knowing it'll be awesome - no gimmicks, activities, stupid dressing up... just talking, shouting, drinking, laughing, screaming and proper quality time

I don't understand the fuss about - having to book everything so far in advance, why does it take the wedding dress shop six months to get my dress? paying so much for a cake

I secretly hate - the 'wedding etiquette' worrying about who sits where, will the people on table 6 think they're less important than the people on table 3??? why are lillies for funerals and carnations for weddings i dont like carnations, being told who to invite family politics. having to chose between dad and step dad to walk me down the aisle, when i'd rather my mum did it but she wont as its 'not the done thing'(hate the fact H2B has already been married twice before dont want people comparing the weddings ....also fact that his ex wifes best friend is one of our three local registrars and we wont know who's doing our ceremony till the week before the wedding) that anything weddingy is so much more expensive, i'm getting married week after Valentines day so why do i have to pay valentine's prices for flowers???????? surely they are the same flowers 52 weeks a year?

i secretly love - that i get to spend the day with the people who are important to me ( and the one's i couldn't care less about but who are important to my mum!) that i get to be the centre of attention not just someone's mum

I dont understand the fuss about.... spending rediculous amount on a cake - its just a cake!

I secretly hate... that soon my wedding will be over and there will be no more planning or that big day to look forward to!

I secretly love...getting my hair, make up and nails done on the day despite the fact im not normally a girly girl.

I dont understand the fuss about - Another vote for chair covers- people will be sitting down, therefore you can't see the chairs anymore!!!

I secretly hate - The fact that my parents paid for our wedding and reception so I had to invite my cousins meaning 4 of my friends had to come as evening guests. And I sold my dress on ebay- for £30! Someone got a super bargin.

I secretly love - Lurking on hitched (esp WP) when I've been married for almost a year......I can't stop.

I dont understand the fuss about - loads of traditional wedding things - wedding cars, recieving lines and veils are top of my list.

I secretly hate - First dances.

I secretly love - my tiara. I honestly thought I would never get one but I did.

I don't understand the fuss about - "convention" or "tradition"

I (not so) secretly hate - the "rules" or opinions that pretty much everyone in the family has suddenly developed about everything with 3 weeks to go. E.g. it is the law that men in kilts must have heather in their button holes, the best man is too young to raise a toast, not having a receiving line is rude, a church reading is "too religious"...I could go on.

Apparently in the two years that it has taken me to plan this wedding and been asking them what they wanted/thought, they lostthe power of speech, only to rediscover it now - how lovely!

I secretly love - that my wedding has given my dad the excuse he needed to be involved in my life again.

I don't understand the fuss about - favors

I secretly hate - that I'll be the centre of attention - really shy and nervous

I secretly love - that H2b is so helpful and full of opinions about the wedding when I thought that he would not be worried about it until about 3 weeks before...

    I've got more.

I don't hate these but instead just don't understand having every corner of the room decorated in flowers, ballons etc. What the room looks like (to be degree) doesn't interest me. Also I don't get double ring boxes really but they do look pretty but only for one photo. Also don't understand spending £20k ish on a wedding (controversial I know) but I'm planning on my wedding costing £6k ish and that is me getting exactly what I want so having more money wouldn't change my plans.

I love finding a bargain and was delighted my dream veil (yes I love veils) was a fifth of the price the bridal shop was charging.

I dont understand the fuss about - losing shyte loads of weight just because you're getting married. How many grooms diet to within an inch of their life to fit into a suit 3 sizes smaller than they've been wearing for years? Hes marrying you cos of you, not cos he wants a girlfriend who is a size 16 and a wife who is a miserable size 12.

I secretly hate - people who spend excessive money on their wedding day.

Brides who insist on a hideously expensive dress because they want to feel a "princess". Its a dress and you wear it for a few hours. (I was chatting to a girl who spent £2k on a dress - I didn't spend much more than that on my entire wedding inc my dress!)

People who spend hundreds on flowers that'll end up wilted and in the bin within a day.

Those who go on about 'knowing its the one' when they try a dress on. I actually felt cheated for a while as I didn't get that feeling at all so thought I was some sort of freak who'd picked the 'wrong' dress - but then realised I'd picked the best 2 piece for me (even though it was coloured, LouLou!) and can wear it again and not look like I'm wearing anything wedding related.

I secretly love - the fact my Husband and I were the centre of a huge ring of people who wanted to come party with us to celebrate our wedding, whilst swirling round each other like banshees to "Loch Lomond" by Runrig.

    Dont understand the fuss about:
    - Inviting every family member/person you have ever come into contact with in your life. If you don't see them or have contact with them on a regular basis, leave them off the guests list.
    - Hen or stag weeks/weekends to really expensive destinations.

    I secretly hate:
    - Badly fitting Bm dresses that have odd hem lines (usually because they are off the peg dresses so can't be taken up or down to suit the varying heights).
    - Colour overkill, especially if it is all one shade of lilac.
    - Balloons at weddings.
    - Feeling the need to have hundreds of group same-background-different-faces (very traditional) wedding photographs, they are boring to do and boring to look at in an album.

    I secretly love:
    - Posed 'arty' couple photographs. We thought we wanted all natural shots but decided to have some 'couple' shots done too and we are so glad we did. They were great fun to do, didn't take as long as you would think and our guests actually seemed to enjoy watching them being done.
    - Choreographed first dances. We only had 2 lessons as it was a last minute decision but our guests (and us) loved it and they still talk about it 10 months on.
    - (no secret here) Wedding stationery. I have to look at every thread about this!
    - That all couples are so different and what one person hates, another loves and that is what makes our weddings all so different and unique to us!

Dont understand the fuss about: Colour schemes, wedding cars, spending lots of moey on silly 'wedding' things.

I secretly hate : Fascinators, even the name annoys me. Hundreds of wedding photographs/photographers who seem to think you want a photo of you waking up/brushing your teeth/cutting your toe nails. Photographers who think the photos are all you care about and are the most important part of your wedding (I know I am harsh) - when was the last time you saw anyones who hadn't just got married?

I secretly love : getting married, having all my friends and family in the same place, winding my H2B up about not changing my name ( I will but he don't know yet!!!).

    Dont understand the fuss about:
mega expensive wedding cars, favours, mega expensive flowers

    I secretly hate:
chocolate fountains, shiny waistcoats and cravats, the prices you have to pay cos its a wedding, the fact that my dress was so expensive and my mum offered to pay for it-feel so guilty (should have gone to cheaper shops!!)

    I secretly love:

my dress, my invites, my flowers, being so excited, the fact that all my friends are stunned that I`ve turned into a wedding fiend

I don't understand the fuss about - chair covers -especially as it was compluslory we had them. Having to have a child minder (again compulsory) cos we have kids at the venue -erm, shouldnt their parents be looking after them?

I secretly hate - 'reccommended suppliers', the price of things like 'welcome drinks' -£4.50 PER GLASS ??? The fact our familys havent taken that much of an interest really, family politics -my stomach turns at the thought of my dad and his g/f (woman he had an affair with 2 years ago) and my mum and her boyf in the room together for the first time -luckily its a big wedding....

Doves -although loved the old thread re viagra dropping doves ?

Chimney sweeps -its just effing weird....

I secretly love - the thought of walking down the aisle with my dad and H2B seeing me. Having had free rein to order what I want, and that I feel very lucky that my wedding day is planned just as I always imagined it would be Smiley smile

Ah I really enjoyed re-reading this thread.

I laughed that I wrote that I didn't get the whole holding a horseshoe thing for photos and then the photo I posted on the dress thread is a photo of my little cousin handing me one and a chimney sweep.

After a few photos I...um... gave it to someone to look after

I don't understand the fuss about - stationary & table names, I haven't a clue why these are so important - surely the marriage is the most important part of it all.

I secretly hate - the thought that I will have to have my photo taken hundreds of times on the day, I HATE having my picture taken. Also Shopping for bridesmaid dresses, the thought of it makes my eyes water

I secretly love - looking at other peoples photos, especially their dresses and cakes!

I secretly hate that there will probably be some hobbible pictures of me that I will get upset over because of my weight.

I secretly love looking at wedding magazines, peoples photos of dresses, cakes, stationary... everything!

I don't understand the fuss about - Hen nights, what is the point?! I'll still go out and get drunk with my friends when I'm married, so It's not going to be the last time!!

I secretly hate - Being centre of attention, (if I had it my way it would be just me and OH on a beach somewhere, but MIL2B would throw a fit). Having to wait until 2010 to get married. Having to pose for a million photos just to keep everyone else happy. Spending 10k on a party!!!

I secretly love - That H2B will let me do whatever I want for the wedding if it means he doesn't have to make a dission.
