Confetti confusion

tortoise, 26 July, 2012 at 10:18 Posted on Planning 0 24

I'm thinking about getting confetti for our guests to throw so we can have the 'confetti shot' photos. I remember hearing that you're only allowed to use certain types as some can explode pigeons or something?? any truth in that and what should I avoid? I quite fancy having bubbles, but the guns are too expensiveto buy many and I can probably pinch 2 from my niece and nephew for the day. Would this be too much having both? I just don't want to give the guns to, say, best man and bridesmaid, and not have anything else for anybody else to do/throw x

Why do you need guns? Can't you just use normal bubble wands?

Not sure on confetti as our venue didn't allow it. We didn't have bubbles or confetti. Lots of people on here use dried rose petals though.

We'll prob have bubbles on the tables for the reception. I was just thinking that, for the pictures, you can get a better flow of bubbles with a gun, whereas with the wands, there would be a few decent bubbles and a lot of bubble mixture being spat at us x

I am getting married in a church and have been told that we can use biodegradable confetti, but only on the grounds. I think it will only be our nieces that will have confetti, but we have only bought some for then so maybe some other guests will bring their own.

We are having a few boxes of biodegradable confetti, which our venue allows. They have said they don't allow any other kind, which we have put on all our info, but seeing as how many of our guests haven't bothered to read the info not sure if they will be aware. We have tried to spread the word as well.

We've chosen not to have confetti, venue allows it but its not what we really like ect, so asking guests not to throw it either. Bubbles on the other hand sound quite fun. Might have to discuss bubbles with OH. xx

We had bubbles and confetti (due to me buying too much! Ooops!) and it was fine. The kids (and the big kids!) loved the bubbles (which were wands) and the grown-ups mostly chose confetti.

If you go for bubbles, just make sure you get one that won't stain your dress!

Off the topic, I know, but I would be very unhappy if this happened to my TOG! Surely they should always bring backups of everything they might need and the correct solution to clean the lense in case it gets dirty through whatever means- would be an essential I would have thought?!? I hope he's learned his lesson and is better prepared!!

I have made my own confetti by collecting petals and drying them! It took a while but saved a lot of money!! They will decay naturally outside too, as our venue only allows biodegradable/ natural confetti.

I really wanted to do this but ran out of time (as we brought the wedding forward). I read in a wedding magazine of one bride whose H2B bought her a bouquet of flowers for the house every week. She saved and dried all the petals to use as their wedding confetti. So lovely and romantic ?

I might sound really dumb, but how do you dry the petals, and how long does it take? x

Theres quite a few methods really! If you google it you will see, but I did two ways- drying them in the green house and microwaving them between paper kitchen towels. The latter that I learned (after doing a lot of it in the green house) was quicker but had to make sure I didnt over heat the microwave! ?

Ha ha I love this. I might give it a go this weekend. Any idea how long they last once dried? Do you have to keep them in an air tight container or anything? x

I'd ask your dress seller for a fabric swatch (say that its for matching accessories or something) and try it on there

Yes I did mine just over 3 weeks ago! Still good! You defo need an air tight container! You have to be carefull not to over do them as they will go too crispy and brown!

We had dried rose petals for ours.

If you really want a confetti shot I would provide it because we went to a wedding three weeks after ours where OH was BestMan and they wanted a confetti shot and out of all the guests there was only me and one lady with it! So that messed that idea up!

    We had rice butterflies.

    https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/blogs/planwithfran/page/20111018/fluttery-by-fabulous.aspx

They are butterflies, made of rice paper and each individual piece of confetti has a grain of rice glued on (with special glue) - so when your guests throw a handful in the air the weight of the rice and the rice paper takes 8 seconds to fall......giving your photographer a good few seconds to capture some amazing shots.

They were expensive, compared to normal confetti, but we got some amazzzzzzing pictures from it!

I liked that they were unique and none of our guests had seen them before ?

    Fran x

I made all my own confetti from the roses in my garden. I just laid the petals out on kitchen towel in the spare room for a few days until they had dried. I was making mine a year in advance and it lasted fine. It was nice as the older stuff had gone completely brown but the newer stuff was shades of pink and red which looked good in the photos.
