Confetti - large flakes for photos?!

foxxy88, 9 March, 2015 at 11:36 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi All,

We met our TOG yesterday for our pre wedding shoot. They mentioned that the larger the confetti flakes the better the confetti throwing shots are - and the more there is the better! Do any of you lovely ladies knows what classes as large flakes? I can't seem to find anything outside the realms of "normal" size.

As a tip also, the advised against dried flowers as if its damp they could stain the dress etc and don't look the best in photos..

Thanks x

I've gone for biodegradable hearts in white, silver and pink, about an inch in size. Should work well for photos.

Oooh was just about to suggest Shropshire petals. I got a sample from them with large petals then I read what your tog had said about them staining, I'd never considered this. Think I might wet a handful & see! I'll let you know cos otherwise they're perfect.

I wanted hydrangea petals but I read somewhere that they weren't good for throwing (no idea why!).

I know its a small detail, but would just love one of those amazing confetti pics, i guess we'll have to have everyone coming throwing it in buckets fulls lol - only about 25 people coming to the ceremony.

Thanks Sarah.Jones for offering to check Smiley smile. And thanks alyj66 for the pic Smiley smile

I'm not sure what classes as large flakes but we used tissue paper heart shaped confetti from this Etsy shop and were very impressed with our confetti shots ;-)

A lot of it is to do with the quantity rather than what you're throwing I think. Lovely "full" looking confetti shots are often made when there's plenty to go around and the shot is well coordinated by the TOG ?

In our experience *generally* real petals don't seem to fly as well as the biodegradable paper stuff. They tend to be heavier and can be a bit too big if you go for something like rose petals.

The biodegradable paper stuff actually works really well and is big and light enough to provide the nice confetti photo that lots of couples dream of.

Dried also works fine as long as there is enough of it, but again i've heard the stainage thing too (never seen it myself, but couldn't rule it out)

Yes agreed, personally I've found it's better to have more than the size of flakes. The biggest issue I've found is that often couples don't think about confetti and assume guests will bring it. A few do and then this is shared around so you end up with everyone with a small pinch worth of confetti. To the point now where I actually bring a box of confetti with me!

If you want a good confetti shot bring lots, get it all shared around. Get the tog to position everyone and make sure they throw at the same time and upwards. Amazingly some throw it like a cricket ball and I'm not sure a clump of confetti hitting you on the side of the face is the look you want even if it makes for a hilarious photo!

Lastly don't bother with the confetti cannons you can get from eBay etc. They're rubbish and never go off at the same time.

Just to say that we only had 28 at the wedding and that was about half of them throwing one cone each. I hope you get your shot.
