Confetti photo

LC to be, 10 January, 2013 at 15:00 Posted on Planning 0 12

Just wanted to ask those that had a confetti photo what kind of thing you used? There seems to be a lot of options. I was originally thinking of having dried flowers but Im not sure how long they stay up for and whether the photo will have the effect want. From some googling I've now seen that you can get confetti canons so go up higher and so give the photographer longer to take the pic and rice butterflies which are meant to come down slower.

Has any one used any of the above methods? Little confused by all the options

I wanted specific shaped confetti, so I cut my own out of coloured paper. People just threw it up in the air and we got a brilliant confetti shot.

The photographer HIBs will have a proper response as to timing of the shot.

The photographer should have the skill to catch confetti that's hand thrown, I don't think you need to have special equipment for it. Only thing I do usually is check with guests/bridal couple when the confetti is going to be thrown, so that I am ready for it. I've photographed actual rice as confetti (cultural thing) and it was fine.

Here's just a few confetti shots to give you an idea of what it looks like hand thrown on a level. Other togs I'm sure will show their confetti shots too Smiley smile

If you want it to really rain down, maybe see to it that the confetti throw is on church steps? When the couple is at the bottom it creates "higher" looking confetti

Over the years I have developed ways to get the best out of a completely random somewhat un controllable (although choreographed ) event. I would say don't bother with the cannons as they can go too high, people get it wrong in the launch and mistime it, or it doesn't go off at all and when it does it gives granny a fright and the shot ends up not being as effective just normal confetti would of been. I had one once where the friends from the office saved the hole punch cuttings for months, which ended up in a total white out and in one shot you could not see anything at all. With modern cameras you can get up to 10 frames a second so can pick the best.

Confetti shots are one of my favourite shots but before you plan anything, check with your venue first. Did you want it at the Church (if you are having one) or at the reception venue. Some places only allow real petals or bio degradable stuff.

I love confetti shots!!! I'd say the best type in my opinion is the bog standard biodegradable paper confetti, just hand thrown - it's light enough that it doesn't fall too quickly, and also if there are bits in front of your face they don't make the photo unusable as they're quite small. Confetti canons can be good in that they produce A LOT of confetti, but they can be tricky to use........ (although this can make a funny shot too!). At one of our recent weddings the best man actually fired one back at himself instead of over the couple ?

One thing we always say to our couples is to remember that confetti doesn't hurt, your guests aren't throwing bricks - the terrified look with a screwed up face isn't the look most bride & grooms are going for!

We're having a registry office ceremony, so no confetti allowed! *sniff*

So, we're having BUBBLES instead! These ice-cream cone ones fit in with our seaside theme perfectly. And they are nice and floaty and slow, so our (semi-amateur) photographer gets plenty of time for the snap! ?

I love our confetti shots, it's one of my faves! We just picked up a job lot of white and silver shapes on ebay, it had to be biodegradable though.

Bubbles can be harder to photograph as for it to look any good you need a lot - and the wind blows em off

I love my confetti shot- but it's probably the opposite of what you should try and achieve unless you're going for the comedy effect!
