Confused about registrar things...

hshc86, 23 July, 2010 at 15:04 Posted on Planning 0 4

As the title says I'm confused about registrar stuff! I'm probably just being dense but I really can't get straight in my head what we're supposed to do in terms of registrars. I don't think reading a billion websites telling me what I should be doing has helped as I keep getting conflicting instructions...

We live together so we're supposed to give notice to our local county's registrar, but can't do so more than a year before the wedding date, yes...? (Wedding should be Sept 2011, though haven't booked a venue yet >_< )

We'll most definitely not be getting married in our own registrar area, so we need to see if the registrar for the area we will be getting married is able to do the date, yes...? Are we also not able to do this more than a year before?

Do we have to do both at the same time or one before the other...?

0_o Argh, so confused by this registrar stuff!

Yeah you can't give notice until 1 year before your wedding date.

We booked our venue before we booked our registrar.

We gave notice together, after the 1 year mark was passed (actually quite a bit later than that) I provisionally booked our wedding date/time with the registrars then booked an appointment to give notice.

    Thanks Joseipoo

So basically what I think I need to do is correct then?

It's just when we've been to view venues, several have said you must make sure you book the registrar during the provisional booking period with us. Then others have had brochures that said you had to book the registrar before...

We are the same - getting married out of our area therefore we had booked the registrar to marry us who covered that area and then are due to give notice in the area with live next week. Both of them we couldnt do until 12 months in advance

I got married out of county...

What you need to do is:

    1) Provisionally book a date with your venue
    2) Call the registry office in the town where you want to get married to check they are available on the date / time you want. They will then "pencil you in" until you've given notice
    3) Contact your local registry office to arrange to give notice
    4) Once you've given notice, the registry office will send the relevant forms to the people conducting your ceremony

    Done!
