Convince me it's the right colour scheme - pleeeeaaassseeee!

Purple Pixie, 1 February, 2011 at 11:12 Posted on Planning 0 24

Some of you will know from my thread the other day that I've been agonising over my colour scheme, or more specifically, about the flowers the bridesmaids will have. I know I want fushcia/bright pink flowers and would like that as my main colour. I also want whatever the flowers the bridesmaids have to really 'pop' out in the photos.

So, I think I have decided that fuschia will still be my main colour but I'd like the bridesmaids to wear purple and for purple to be my accent colour. What do you think? Is it too over-done at the minute? Is it too bright?

Wedding is in July. Church service followed by reception at a place that looks like a castle. If any of that makes a difference.

Help! Pretty, pretty, please x

What shade of purple? Hot pink/purple is quite a popular combination and I'm sure someone will be along with a mood board shortly.

If that's what you want, then have it. I don't think anyone is going to strongly disagree with you.

Personally they aren't my favourite colours but if we were using that I think I might use some silver accents - particularly things like crystal table decorations - to tone things down and add a touch of sparkle?

My friend at work had fuschia and purple. It looked amazing!!!!!! I love it. I too am having fuschia and have been thinking about adding purple. Although i have already ordered my bridesmaid dresses in fuschia.

I have been having wobbles over my fuschia colour scheme but my friends looked amazing with purple bridesaid dresses!

    Thanks everyone.

Lucie it's great to hear of a real-life experience of the colour scheme.

I just want to add a colour that will make the bright pink flowers really stand out. I had thought about some shade of blue but I had blue for my first wedding so I've been trying to avoid it.

I've googled but am struggling to come up with pictures of purple dresses with pink flowers.

I'm having a pink colour scheme with different shade of pink from baby pink to fuschia. I did think about having 1 shade of pink with purple but the different pinks thing is very 'me'. I think fuschia & purple will look fab & if it is what you like then go for it ?

I certainly thought about it - as i'm getting married in Purple. My only BM my 12 year old daughter I tried to convince to wear Fushia Pink when we looked 18 months ago... NO way she said - I hate Pink.

4 months to go what's her favourite colour..!! bright pink..! it would have looked lush!!

    go for it x

I used fuchsia for a wedding last year (table plan in my gallery here) and it looked stunning. Very often two colours sound as if they will be vile together but actually work incredibly well. Maybe you could make up an inspiration board with what you want and see how it looks? The venue sounds lovely and a rich colour scheme would really work well.

    Good luck!

I should probably have mentioned (but didn't because I'm a twit!) that the meal and evening stuff will be in a marquee so there will be lots of white to tone it all down. I'm only going to use the purple as an accent so when you walk into the marquee you will probably only notice white and pink.

Sarah - that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing, purple dresses with pink flowers. Pink is going to be the strong colour on everything throughout the day with just the odd hints of purple (except for the dresses)

    Hi,

I am also having pink and purple. The weddings in May if you can wait until then for a flash.

My bridesmaids are in really dark purple and will be having fucia, baby pink and ivory gerberas tied with purple ribon. My bouquet will be similar but bigger with a few ivory roses and dark purple flowers (not sure what they are, maybe sweet pea). Picking the mens suits next weekend but I think there wearing dark grey, ivory waistcoats and purple cravats with pink gerbera flower.

I hope this helps you. When i bought my bridesmaids dresses I bought the flowers and took them for them to hold and I can honestly say the colours look amazing together.

I think Purple and Fuchsia sounds awesome! I'm also very fond of fuchsia and bright orange.

I don't think there is such a thing as "too bright". It's a happy occasion- why not make it as colourful as possible??

Ok, so these are my 3 bridesmaids in their dresses, they are all having purple, just didnt have it i n the right size when they tried them on hence the pink one, it looks a bit blue in the first pic which is why i put the 2nd onw up too. from left to light, BM1 is having hers as it is, B2 is havin a halterneck added and having it brough in so its less A line & BM3 is having 2 thick straps added.

they are having these in their hair

BM2 has pink shoes and mum has picked up 3 cerise pashminas for them for when we are out side taking pics and my favorite part, their flowers:

    and mine!

i know its not great not actually being able to see it all come together (you will be bale to nect month though!!!!) but i hope it helps!!

More people saying they like the idea - yippeee! ?

Mrs Bass - thank you so much for taking the time to post your photos. I love them. I had been toying with the idea of tuquoise instead of purple this afternoon but I think your photos have just convinced me that purple is the way to go.

I LOVE purple and fuschia together, I wanted fuschia and never thought of putting it with purple, so ended up combining it with mocha, a bit gutted now! So I think you should go for it!

I was a bridesmaid last year and I wore a vivid purple dress with matching shoes and we had fushia pink roses as our posies. I have to say it looked amazing! I think it worked as the venue was very neutral so the colours looked so vibrant against the back drop. I think you have made a brilliant choice. I would say not to over do the colour scheme as it is so bright, splashes of colour look fantastic/ over done could look tacky (sorry I hope you don't mind saying that) X

Wow... I think the fuchsia pink looks AMAZING against deep purple. Gorgeous! You've given ME colour scheme wobbles now (and that's saying something as it was the first thing I decided and matches my engagement ring!).
