Cookers, which is better?

GlenCoco, 7 June, 2009 at 08:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Sorry for the dull post but I'm buying a cooker for our new house, I want a gas hob but not sure whether to go for a gas oven or electric - which is best? Which gives the best results?

Well I prefer electric but then I haven't cooked with gas. I like a gas hob/electric oven though. That's what we have, ours is a Belling.

I much prefer gas hob (easier to adjust temp quickly) and electric (fan assisted) oven for speed and regulated temp.

Our hob top is Zanussi and oven is Hotpoint

Generally Electric ovens are regarded as better as they keep a more even temperature so better for baking cakes etc. But I'd imagine that electric are more expensive to run! We got a zanussi which? best buy oven a few years ago and it's been great, particularly the pizza setting which makes the base nice and crispy

We've got a gas hob though as I find electric hobs are really slow to heat up

Thanks everyone. I definately want a gas hob, we currently have an electric hob and I hate it... you're right about it taking forever to heat up. I think I'll go for an electric oven even though they're a bit more expensive. I'm looking at a Beling so Sunset I'm glad you're happy with yours.

If you're a baker, my mum says her scones have definitely gone downhill since she switched to an electric fan-assisted oven. I now make better scones than Mum. Yes! [punches air] ?

I've had both and electric is definitely better for cooking and for baking. I also prefer my electric hob, but I don't have the heating up speed issues that some hobs have and which seem to be most people's problem with them. Mine is hot within 10 seconds of turning it on.

We've gone for the best of both worlds and have a range with a gas hob, electric fan oven, electric conventional oven and a grill. It's fab and i'd not go back to having an electric hob if I can possibly help it. ?

I don't have heating up problems with my electric hob, it's lowering the temp I have trouble with, I'd like a gas hob (as you have better temp control) but am in a towerblock so no gas.

When we eventually buy a house I was gas hob, electric oven.

I have a wonderful electric ceramic type hob, is much better than my old gas one. Heats up pretty much instantly and cools quick too. I also have an electiric fan oven, it cooks so evenly!

I've had gas ovens before, some have been good, others bad. You just have to make sure it heats evenly all over. I found my worst gas hob that just heated from a little bit at the back and it was awful!

Ive got a 5 burner gas hob with a wok burner in the middle I love it! I also have a dual fuel oven, top oven is an electric fan oven and bottom is a conventional gas oven, I like both for cooking different things in. The hob and oven are both Stoves.
