Cooking chestnuts in the microwave

Ms T, 14 November, 2008 at 18:25 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

Does anyone do this?

I need to make a batch of chestnut cream filling for some biscuits and I was going to roast them in the oven but my friend just told me to do them in the microwave as they are done in 2 minutes. Never done it before (well I have never heard of this before) and as much as I love my mate she does have a habit of doing strange culinary things which she thinks are great successes but are in fact a bit rubbish.

So before I go and ruin this whole bag of chestnuts is it worth doing to save me 30 mins or so?

Yes you can, just make sure you pierce the shells first carefully with a sharp knife to stop them exploding, and check them to make sure you don't overcook them.

Why don't you try a few first to see if the result is to your liking

I forget what's wrong with them when microwaved, but the one time I tried it I didn't like them just to eat but they made a great stuffing.

I think to be honest I would just boil them. That way they will stay nice and juicy! although the thought of them exploding has made me laugh!
