Cooking Dinner Tonight... Argh!!

VJ, 1 May, 2008 at 09:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Please help!! ? I'm cookin dinner tonight for me & OH and I have no idea what to do!! I'm going shopping at lunch for the ingrediants. I have about an hour in which to cook (otherwise it's too late to eat) and in all honesty... I'm really not very good at cooking!! But I am willing to follow a recipie and give something a go!

We're both meat eaters, pretty much eat everything... Any advice / links to recipies would be greatly appreciated?!

Thanks! ?

Normally something easy like casserole or shepherds pie... That's about the extent of my cooking!

We've eaten quite a bit of pasta this week, I fancy a challenge but have no creativity! OH is a chef so finds it really easy when he cooks lol!!

I'm feeling generous so try this - it's a piece of piss.

    Cheesy Beef Wellington

Take two medium sized fillet steaks, season and pan fry for a minute on each side. Set aside to rest.

Take some ready rolled puff pasty and cut into squares that can be folder up around the steak into a parcel.

Put a little wholegrain mustard in the middle of the square, sit the steak on top and then crumble some stilton on top (original recipe also says put a piece of hand carved ham on top but I don't think you need this).

Bring the corners of the parcel together over the top, sealing the edges with water and then egg wash the parcel.

Bung in a pre heated oven (180 for a fan) for 20 minutes until the puff pastry is cooked.

Serve with whatever veg you fancy (cabbage is good) and you can make an excellent gravy by softening some red onions, deglazing the frying pan with red wine, adding beef stock and reducing to a sticky mess.

    Very simple, very tasty.

What about steak and chips? I love that. Also steak in a baguette with some mushrooms is yum and dead easy - I'm a crap cook but can manage it!

BBC recipes page is excellent for inspiration - I recently asked here for cod ideas and was steered in that direction and there were some really good ideas

So do I, but it lacks that certain je ne sais quoi that only steak wrapped in puff pastry can bring to the dining table.
