Cost!?!

far2calm, 4 November, 2011 at 13:52 Posted on Planning 0 29

Is it just me or does it seem that every time you mention the fact you are wanting to purchase something for your wedding they seem to add a zero on the end.... its ridiculous, should be a law against it!!!

Over £1,100 for stationery ? it don't think so, blue peter stylie me thinks

Sorry just having a twist, bring on the vino!

I can completely agree with that which is why I am having a D.I.Y wedding and unless I'm asked I do not tell them what it is for and if I am asked I tell them it is for a family event and not a wedding. An example of this is I was looking for a caterer and my mum phoned a company and said it was a wedding and they wanted £80 a head I phoned not realising my mum had and said it was a family event and I was quoted £40 a head

What were you getting for £1100?

We did ours ourselves, I know some people think the invitations are key and 'set the mood for the day' - personally, it's just an invitation, and I'm sure that most people won't even think to keep them after the event.

I know some of our HIBS are incredibly talented and can do them much better than I could ever have done so, but we kept it cheap and simple. Have you asked any of the HIBS for quotes?

    70 Day Invitations

    100 Evening Invitations

    70 Order of Services

    15 Menus

    15 Table Numbers

    150 Place Names

    170 Thank You Cars

Yes there is a lot there but it still seems a ridiculous amount!!!

Are you sure you need that many invitations? Remember, you only need one per couple/family.

It was a chain of the printing.com

Just double checked and I would really need 73 day invitations, ha. OH and I have decided to just invite our friends on there own instead of couples to the day time, as our numbers would just get even more out of hand so a lot of those invites will just be going to 1 person.

I'm lucky im having 80 to the day do but only need about 40 invites, not sending them to the parents, my grandparents or any of the wedding party! so saving on them.

will prob have about 150 to the night so about 60+ invites!

Have you had a look on vistaprint you can play around with them and reword, change colours or design your own on their?

    xx

150 - 160 to day time.... would like to squish that to 130, but budgeting on worse case

250 - 300 to evening... and again hoping that will be more 250

I budgeted for £300! ha ha ha, whoops! But I do think that would be possible with home made!

I totally agree here! When i was looking at TOGS one had two packages on their site:

birthday package - £350 ( bascially 5 hours with all photos on disk)

Wedding package - £1400 ( 5 hours with all photos on disk)

    WTF!

£395 for a tog is a bargain, they all seem to start from £800 upwards in the North East!

Now, don't all shout at me, but in defence at that stationer's quote, I think that is reasonable - purely because of the numbers of items and the time it would take to potentially make and finish them.

There are many factors that can affect price of stationery eg, print method, card stock & envelopes, amount of design, proofing and artwork involved, format of invitations, amount of embellishment and hand finishing (of nearly 600 items!). A personalised stationery order of that size can take a designer as many or more total hours work to prepare & complete as a photographer or florist take on each of theirs but sadly less value is often perceived in the work we do.

Breaking it down very, very roughly it works out:

70 x Day invitations at approx £3.00 each

    100 x Evening Invitations at £2.00 each

    70 x OOS at £3.00

    15 x Menus at £3.00 each

    15 x Table Names at £3.00 each

    150 x Place names from 50p each

    170 x Thank you cards at £1.50

Don't forget that stationery is often made and invoiced in stages - the invitations first, then followed several months later by the on the day items, so you wouldn't be paying for it all in one go.

Didnt want to read and run (and ive been on the vino! well tis Friday!) but even as a HIB and having a shop the whole reason that I started Lilypond Weddings up was because of the extra cost that was added by the word wedding!

Obviuosly we need to make money but the amount of customers we have that say "omg I cant belive the price" makes me smaile evey time! I can still make a profit without taking the P%** and that is the whole point of Lilypond!

I got annoyed when i was getting married (twice now!) so i can happily say that what we charge for what we do is not only reasonable it is cheaper! Even though we have been here some 8 years my motto is still the same!

Do not pay over the odds just because the word wedding is involved!

Shop around, haggle, and stick to a budget!

We recently had a bride in that wanted an envelopment style with extra info sheets but didnt like any designs we had in the shop. I worked around her budget and she absolutely loved what we came up with and again couldnt believe that we did it within her price.

Ooh it does annoy me! (lol)

Try ebay. There are some lovely ones on there and they are really cheap, and some are beautiful. We're getting ours on there for £1 an invite.
