Cost of Alterations. How much are yours?

The Sock Chicken, 7 July, 2010 at 22:06 Posted on Planning 0 20

Only if you don't mind saying.

It got me thinking when I read how much Sparkles and Raef's cost.

I'm now thinking mine were cheap - £30 for the hem and £8 to do the ribbons for the bustle.

My CBM is a seamstress and trying to get into doing alterations, she was asking how much I paid to get an idea how much to charge herself. Please can you share, so she can get an idea of the norm.

TIA

132 for my dress to be taken in at the top, taken up at the bottom, bussle added for the train to be tied up, and all 3 bridesmaids dresses to be taken in at the top and taken up at the bottom and hemed, she visited the house 3 times too so in all a bargain!

Nothing - I only had an inch taken out on the bust and one taken in on the waist but they didn't charge for it. I was quite surprised actually

£80 tops no matter how much needs doing. Pronovias would have charged £160 & another place £250 - for the same dress.

The shop where I got my dress wanted about £400 so I took my dress elsewhere and for £140 I got my hem taken up, bustle, all my corset bones had to be moved about to sort the bust from gapping, neckline changed to a sweetheart so heaps of beads had to be sorted and I had beads taken off under my arms as they were quite sore.

The bm dress was £70 for the bust and hem.

When i bought my dress they said that any alterations were a flat fee of £145 which for my dress would include, adding a panel to the corset, adding a section to the skirt and anything else.

I have taken mine to a local seamstress, who is shortening the straps, and taking in the top half by about 2 inches, and tightening some loose sequins (bargain shop sample lol) and she is charging £60 all in which I thought sounded about average?

When I was looking for dresses most of the places were charging a standard amount. £185 for Berketex and £250 for Pronovias I think. Worth bearing in mind these are London prices though. Mine is being made to measure so the cost will be included with that.

    Hi,

Impaying £50.00 for my dres sthats to be taken in at the sides, the crystal beading under the arms to be replaced with something not as sharp and the bustle added.

My maids had their fittings last night and their alterations came to 115.00. Thats for 2 * hems, taken in at both sides, re boning and straps attached for nightime.

    Shocking isnt it

Definatey think I was ripped off at £70 for the hem to be taken up. I don't even think it was straight...

I hate my dress shop with a passion and will name and shame as soon as I have the dresses in my possession to warn others!

(Funnily enough, I ran into an old friend at the dress shop yesterday and I have now heard the 4th bad review out of 4 stories told about it so it just seems to be an awful shop)

Raef, i ordered my first wedding dress from a newish shop where i am. And i haven't heard a good thing about them. Luckily i found out what kind of shop they was before i paid out a lot of money. And now the shop i have my dress with is fantastic.

So i know exactly how you feel!!

Free, as my MIL2B has done it! She's also made the cake, made my veil, and is making her own outfit!

I'm having the hem taken up, a bustle added and its being taken in about 2-3 inches either side at the bust, which involves losts of bead removal and adding back on and re-jigging of the corset. Costing £120 altogether. I thought that was ok, was expecting more.

Mine is being done by a seamstress. She has taken in both sides, taken up the hem & will be cutting some material out of the bust now to make it even & is going to put in ribbon to make a flat bustle and a loop in the extra organza on the side of the train.

I thought for £110 (including 3 fittings) was a good price.
