I've seen people quoting £500-600 for the church package before, which may or may not include the choir, organist and bellringers, but of course each will be different.

I think you answered your own question though really - you should have asked them!

    Hi there Jaijai85,

I am getting married this October and we will be having a RC service.

As the church is not within our parish we have to pay £500.00. Had we have used the church which is 5 mins away from us then all they ask is that a donation be made which I think is normally anywhere between £300.00 - £400.00.

I know our cost includes the service and the legalisation of our marriage (his Decon is a solicitor so can legalise it for us). Also think it may cover the organist aswell.

    Hope this helps.

P.S our church is in Kent x

As it is a Catholic church then they can't ask you for any specific amount, just a donation - so there wouldn't be much point in asking them anyway. How much you donate depends on how much you are spending on the rest of the wedding. I expect we will donate £200-300 depending on how our finances are looking in August.

This is similar to our church also - its a donation, we will give about £200-£250 and then the organist is £75 on top of that.

I just checked the email and the breakdown of ours is as follows:

    Minister: £241
    Bells & Ringers : £245
    Organ & Organist : £200
Church : £140 (Normally £240 but you paid £100 deposit last year.)
    Choir: £120

We'll also be making a donation to the Church Roof Fund. They've still got some way to go!

Exactly, Trickers. I don't begrudge paying the money to our Church - particularly when you think how much more percentage wise we're prepared to spend on the party part of the day!

It's also a Church that we attend regularly, is opposite the ground Mr CB spends half his life and opposite the house we've got our eyes on! It's a huge bonus it's super cute, though!

Very true Cricket Bride. like Trickers said its not too bad when you break it down, just think the initial sum was abit scary ha, especiaqlly as like i say we knew we would have to pay something for the church but didnt have a clue what it would be! silly really as you wouldnt normally book something without knowing how much it was going to cost you!

Ours is C of E and will cost us £470 including bells. Am supplying own organist and choir comes free (as I am a member).

We would have had to pay extra for heating and video "licence" (or whatever it is) but we aren't having any of that.

Ah that's reassuring - ours is £700 too (C of E)! seems a lot for 45mins, but i love that church so much and it includes a rock band(!) and overhead screens! it looks like a really old, beautiful church but has an amazing sound and graphics system!! i can't wait to see the look on the guests faces when the rock band start up!! ha ha!!

i had heard that catholic churches sre payable by donations!

    Hi

We are getting married in a Catholic church and it is costing us almost £450.

    Its broken down into

    1. £220- use of the church
    2. £150- Flowers (and we HAVE to use the church ladies, cant bring our own florist in)
    3. £50- Organist

On the bottom of the form that they gave us it even said about giving "donations" on top of this, so this is the standard that they make every couple pay to use the church we are using.

    Hi

I am getting married in a Methodist Church, they broke it down as follows:-

Minister £120 (although he has now kindly offered to let this go as he is a friend of OH mum who is also a Minister)

    Organist £85

    Door Steward £40

    PA Steward £40

    Church £150

So after minister deduction we are paying £315. We also had to get a "Notice of Marriage" from our local registrar (we live in Leeds, getting married in Swindon) as the church is not CoE, this was £33.50 each.

Ours is £577, which includes the church, minister, choir, organist and petal confetti. The bells were extra so we didn't ask for them.

Our Church is £550 (CofE) including organ. Will not have to pay for the bells as I am a member of the ringers there! They have kindly offered their services for free ?

Wow I am lucky!! Mine is a Catholic church in the North West - the priest only asks for donations too and only ususally gets £50, we are going to give more obviously. My cousin is playing the organ for us and the priest didn't mention bell ringing?! Will need to ask about that. The registrar to oversee the signing of the register is £70 I think and we are having a flautist to play me in and out and she is £150 for the church and venue during wedding breakfast. We also have a soloist but she didn't want paying as she is only singing 1 song solo so we will prob buy her a gift! So I am getting a good deal I think!

If you go for the bells, please ask and make sure you're actually getting real bell ringers - when my friend got married last year they didn't bother with bells and the vicar told them they usually used a tape anyway because bell ringers are so scarce!!!

Unless it's only the sound you're bothered about, but they always seem so expensive to me and if the actual bell isn't being used then what is the money going towards? Upkeep of the tape player?!?!?

Wow you guys scared me a bit then but glad to see there's a few other Catholic Churches just asking for a “donation” ours only expects about £100, our organist is £60 the registrar is a family friend so doing it for free, we’re having a family friend who’s a choir singer, sing for us and only having their usual flowers which happen to be in the right colour anyway ?
