Costco

Hello all

This may or may not be a bit off topic but I found myself suprised about something today and I thought I would share esp as I noticed a lot of teachers here at half term. Probably everyone already knows but i thought i would share my excitedment. There is a massive list of people who are eligible to join Costco - myself included as NHS staff. We are doing a free bar and some of the catering so I think we will definately save ourselves a few pennies on the big day. And hopefully reduce our grocery bill up to then by buying some stuff in bulk.

I have never been inside a costco - is anyone here a member? Is it worth joining?

Eligible people include:

Banking/Finance/Insurance
Civil Service/Armed Forces
Education
Fire/Rescue
Local Government
Medical/Health Service
Police Force
Post Office
Airlines

Qualified as:-
Chartered Architect
Chartered/Civil Engineer
Chartered Surveyor
Dentist
Optician
Pharmacist
Qualified/Certified/Chartered Accountant
Solicitor
Barrister
Magistrate
Advocate

Me and OH are both eligible then!

It's the joining fee thats always put me off, as I dont know if i'd spend there enough to justify it.

Just curious really.. why do you have to be one of those things to be eligible?

Hi my other half is a member, it saves us a fortune my buying certain things in bulk you do need to be careful and check prices but we go at least once a month, the fee is pretty low and i love going to get all bits and pieces,

I am eligible but my mum is a member so I just go with her. You do have to not get too excited and work out prices as some things seem like a great deal but they're actually not. But you can save loads of money if you look around, especially on wine. The joining fee is worth it, I would pay it if my mum wasn't already a member.

Me & hubby are members, have just joined up last month.

Can't say I was that impressed with it really.

Parents use Costco once a month for a big stock up.

They find it useful as they fill up 2 large chest freezers and a walk in larder cupboard with non perishables and it will keep them for a good long time if the worst ever happens (they do like to be prepared)

Could be handy if you are catering your own wedding, but otherwise it's not something I would look into personally as I don't have the space to bulk buy
