My boy is in hospital :-(
I am lost without him, rattling about on my own like a spare part.
He got sicky on Monday morning, I thought it was a hangover and berated him muchly for getting sent home from work. Fast forward to Wednesday night and he is still vomiting every half an hour, not managed to keep any fluids down and his blood sugar was all over the shop (he is type 1 diabetic). I started to worry when he said we should think about cancelling our camping trip this weekend.
I sneakily got on the phone to NHS direct, not wanting him to see how worried I was. The lady on the phone asked a few questions and as I soon as I mentioned that his vomit was brown (which I assumed was bile, as his must have been empty) she told me to take him to A&E immediately.
So off we toddled at 8pm on Wednesday. He was admitted, hooked up to fluids, glucose, insulin, antibiotics and paracetamol and blood cultures done. His temp was up at 38.9, but had dropped to 37.8 when I left last night.
It turns out that the diabetc ulcer on his foot, has turned septic, he has septicemia. Along side that, he has infections in his chest, stomach and kidneys. He is having an endoscopy today to check hit stomach as he was coughing up some blood on Thursday.
Just heading back to the hospital now to see how he is. His biggest grumble is that he is nil by mouth and hungry! Bless him.
I hate being without him :-(
*********UPDATE*********
So, this little tale took a dramatic turn yesterday.
I posted the other day that he might have to have surgery on his ulcerated foot. It transpires that it wasnt only ulcerated, it was riddled with infection. The upshot is that at 1am this morning, Stu's left leg was amputated at the knee.
That is all really.... feel a bit numb and a bit dazed.
