My boy is in hospital :-(

I am lost without him, rattling about on my own like a spare part.

He got sicky on Monday morning, I thought it was a hangover and berated him muchly for getting sent home from work. Fast forward to Wednesday night and he is still vomiting every half an hour, not managed to keep any fluids down and his blood sugar was all over the shop (he is type 1 diabetic). I started to worry when he said we should think about cancelling our camping trip this weekend.

I sneakily got on the phone to NHS direct, not wanting him to see how worried I was. The lady on the phone asked a few questions and as I soon as I mentioned that his vomit was brown (which I assumed was bile, as his must have been empty) she told me to take him to A&E immediately.

So off we toddled at 8pm on Wednesday. He was admitted, hooked up to fluids, glucose, insulin, antibiotics and paracetamol and blood cultures done. His temp was up at 38.9, but had dropped to 37.8 when I left last night.

It turns out that the diabetc ulcer on his foot, has turned septic, he has septicemia. Along side that, he has infections in his chest, stomach and kidneys. He is having an endoscopy today to check hit stomach as he was coughing up some blood on Thursday.

Just heading back to the hospital now to see how he is. His biggest grumble is that he is nil by mouth and hungry! Bless him.

I hate being without him :-(

*********UPDATE*********

So, this little tale took a dramatic turn yesterday.

I posted the other day that he might have to have surgery on his ulcerated foot. It transpires that it wasnt only ulcerated, it was riddled with infection. The upshot is that at 1am this morning, Stu's left leg was amputated at the knee.

That is all really.... feel a bit numb and a bit dazed.

    Thank you all.

While we were waiting for the surgeon last night, we made a pact... as soon as he can walk on his prosthetic leg, we will get married at the next available date at out local registry office. Dont care who is there, who isnt there, who wears what and does what. As long as we leave together as husband and wife.

I am afraid I have to come on here, or facebook and get it all out and have a good cry and a sob and then be brave and strong for him when I head back to the hospital.

    xxxx

Sending you a totally inadequate weirdie internet hug ?

Sparkles, looking at the positives (sometimes when you feel numb someone else has to point it out to you) he's much safer now it's been removed and your wedding date isn't too far away (how bloody exciting!). You'll get through this lovelies x

It absolutely did Flow... it was literally life or limb. He looks about a million percent better this morning... awake, alert, no pain, no sweats, no vomiting, no fever. He is also being very pragmatic and real about the future too.

    This is good to hear.

The main thing he is alive and by the sounds of it, sounding perkier already.

Keep us updated of his progress, and if you need any help with bringing the wedding forward, there are a hell of a lot of people on here, who would be more than happy to help ?
