Try ringing local independent colleges: most of the ones round our way do evening courses of some ilk.

Also if you google adult learning you might get some idea that might help?

Our local tech runs violin making courses. I am soooooo tempted.

Sorry I couldn't get back on yesterday to say thankyou. Thankyou everyone. I've checked out the sites you recommended and found things I hadn't previously but nothing is catching my eye (well, no evening courses anyway). I haven't phoned anywhere - I'm too shy ?. Oh well, so much for that idea.

Try the university, the uni I work for has an adult education centre that does short taster courses at below degree level - local history and the like

I did a BSL (british sign language) course 2 years ago. It something i always wanted to learn. I didn't know anyone when i started but my class use to go to the pub after every class and we went on several class trips! I recommend it to all. x
