Cover letter help please

Violet1, 21 July, 2009 at 16:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Hi All, I'm in desperate need to find a sales job and quickly. I just got made redundant this afternoon <Cry> I have no idea what to write my mind is completely blank and I'm stressing out. I've never had to write cover letters before. All I can think of is:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I wish to apply for the role of sales manager. Please find attached my CV. I am available to attend interviews and provide further information upon request.

Kind Regards,

Violet.

Now I'm thinking this is duller than dull so can anyone point me on the right path please? Thanks.

So sorry to hear about your redundancy.

When I have applied for jobs I tend to highlight why my skills would match the role they have going, or if a general CV, then the company and their ethos. I play heavily on skills that I think will appeal.

    Good luck.

    To Whom It May Concern,

Please accept my apologies for the direct nature of this email.

I am currently working for X in a Sales Manager's role and am very interested in finding out what Sales Manager roles you may be recruiting for. I am based in X, and am looking for a role for <insert type of business here, eg large corporate / givernment etc>, with a basic salary of X plus benefits and travel allowance.

My current area of expertise is within the X and X <technical?retail? etc> business areas but, as you can see from my CV, I also have extensive X experience <be creative but honest>.

I am available for meetings and/or a conversation this week, and would be keen to discuss any roles you have available.

Please contact me on the details below.

    Thanks and kind regards

HTH (sorry for the strange text and formatting)

Don't mention redundancy in the letter, and technically you're still employed even if on gardening leave so you can put you're still working there until your final paid day.

    HTH x
