Cover ups for me and BMs - any ideas?

niknak149, 24 June, 2011 at 12:54 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi everyone

I would really appreciate some inspiration! Our wedding is in just over 5 weeks and I need to sort out a cover up for me and the BMs as we will all be in strapless dresses, just in case it's a bit cold at any point.

Here's the detail on mine (My first ever flash BTW!) - as you will see it has lace on top so I am worrying that I shouldn't go for a lace bolero thingy as the lace probably won't match? Am I being daft? For others of you with lace on your dresses, what are you planning to wear with them (if anything)?

I am not keen on faux fur but maybe a marabou feather one? But then that might look a bit OTT for a July country garden wedding?

Here's the BMs' dress. I was thinking about maybe a rose pink pashmina for them but I am not really very good with clothes and what goes and what doesn't, so would appreciate suggestions - obviously I will speak to them about it, but because we are on a budget I'd rather present them with a few ideas I've already thought of, if you see what I mean.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be ever so grateful!

Thanks in advance

Niknak

Im selling a bolero in the for sale section.

My dress (ellis 11032) had lace and sparkle details like yours, quite similar, what make is yours?

Are you BM dresses the BHS ones as I think they do matching boleros?

(If im not allowed to post this let me know!!)

    Hi Libby

Thanks for your reply. I did see yours and it looks great but my dress is ivory rather than white, so it probably wouldn't work.

I will have a look at the BHS cover ups. Do you think the pink pashmina idea is naff then?

    Cheers

I think pink would work if it was a dusky pink as the dress looks quite pastel-y and I think if it was too bright, it wouldn't work - alternatively what about ivory?

Have you thought of a baby blue one for you, and a white for the BMs - like a negative effect?

Thanks for your suggestions, the BHS ones would certainly be the safe option as I know the fabric would match the BMs dresses, but I am not sure I like them that much.

I hadn't thought of me having blue and them having ivory, will definitely consider that. I think I like the idea of pink for them because I'm thinking of having some pink in the flowers...

I am SO not good at this sort of thing (as you can tell!)

Could they have pink and you have blue? Or all have pink?

    Hey new date twin!

Love the bridesmaid dresses, last year for my friends wedding we got silver pashmimas (almost a light grey), but they were lovely. I haven't got anything- hoping that it will be warm enough!

No its not naff at all, i nearly got them for my BMs but our wedding day ended up being a very hot day!

I think blue and pink goes nice, esp if the flowers tie in with it too, i found some pics for you to show the colours together ......

Just to say thank you to all of you for your suggestions ❤️

And hello to my date twin clarelou! <waves> How are you getting on? I have been lurking for a while but don't post all that often...

I'm liking the idea of silver for the BMs, I will see what I can find. Still not sure about me, but I'm pretty sure I'll go for ivory in some shape or form.

Anyway, thanks again peeps, you're great!

Well that's not that different from us in some ways - we've been together for ages and engaged for over 5 years, but only started wedding planning in February so way less time then some on here!

So far we've sorted: venue, my dress, my ring (OH doesn't want one), my shoes, caterer, BMs dresses and shoes, suits for the men, favours, ceremony and readings, DJ, photographer, hotel, hair, gift for best man

Still to do: flowers, jewellery, veil, drinks, gifts, makeup, car, playlist, centrepieces, children's bits, orders of service, table plan, and lots of other things on my 3 page to do list!!!!

How does that compare with you?
