creative Ideas help please!

ChannyPink, 25 April, 2013 at 11:50 Posted on Planning 0 4

So originally me and OH was getting married in Weymouth, where we met, got engaged, but after 6 months of venue searching and finding absolutly nothing we like, fell in love with a large georgian house near where we live, It is beautiful and lots of grounds and they are very happy for us to personalise as much as we like, Thing is I just can't get Weymouth out of my head (planned so many lovely seaside inspired things) but OH does not like idea of still having weymouth theme when we are not now by the seaside, But I need to have something as means so much to us, Any ideas?????

I know this may sound crazy, but just throwing it out there!

What about your favours being, Guylian(?) the shell shaped chocolates, that also taste delicious! And possibly naming table names after places in Weymouth, or things associated with the seaside or your engagement?
If he doesn't like the idea of it being seaside themed, perhaps you can just put things in really subtly.
Sorry if none of these ideas help, just throwing things off the top of my head!

You could always make the girls toilets 'beach-y'.. That way he'll never find out ;-)

I love that idea^^^ of the shell shaped chocolates etc. It a way of combining the theme without it being too over the top and apparent. If your OH still isn't keen maybe you could introduce things associated with the seaside in your entertainment. This is dependent on budget of course as they will be a bit pricey but maybe having like a candy floss/doughnut machine or hiring like a cartoon picture booth like what they have in seaside amusements or caricuturist so guests can take something home with them aswell as it being a bit of extra fun. I'm not too sure on specifics to Weymouth sorry but just thought id throw in some seaside-y ideas Smiley smile

I would of said you could combine the two beautifully and would be the best of both worlds.. As this way you can have the venue that you love but tie the seaside in as being important to you and having the best of both worlds

Just go for it anyway! We're getting married in Portsmouth which- technically- is by the sea, but our venue isn't remotely seasidey (it's a rustic French wine bar)...it's not stopping us from having a full on seaside themed wedding! Why not? TONNES of people have 'vintage' weddings, and we're miles away from the 1950s........ ?

This could be a really silly idea but could work (I think). You could create a photo booth area (perhaps under a gazebo outside and just your laptop with someone taking photos etc):

    - A sign to say 'Beside the Seaside - Photo Booth'
    - Sand all on the floor (if it's on a sheet of material your venue would probably allow it)
    - Deck chairs for the guests to sit on
    - Props for the photos could include sunglasses, a sun hat, blow up rings, a sunshine umbrella and anything that reminds you of Weymouth.
    - A cardboard cut out that you normally get on seaside resorts
