Has anyone been? Just been looking at hols for October and have found a good deal. It's a quiet area, approximately 1.5km from Hersonissos (sp?). Just wondering if any other Hitchers have been?

    Hiya

I have been to stalis in crete. It was great, ideal for families and couples. There are also 2 great water parks. Water city was fab and is great with small children. We are thinking of going back next year!

We went to a smallish place called Gouves a few years ago - it was nice, a bit touristy but not overly so. I'd like to go to https://www.eloundabeach.gr/ here which we could see from a boat trip around the area, sadly funds don't allow at the moment!

We went to Hersonissis in 2005 for a fortnight. Its a lovely town, lots of restaurants and bars but not full of the 18-30 crowd (Malia is just down the road so they are all there!). IIRC the beach isn't massive but is clean. We used Hersonissis as a base for exploring other parts of the island via bus, Agias Nikolaus (sp) is lovely too. We love Crete though, we're going again in September and staying just outside Rethmynon.

Thanks for that Bumblebee. Looks like this could be the place then, we're not fussy travellers really and sometimes the reviews can be more of a hindrance than a help IYSWIM

    Don't fear the bus.

We stayed in Malia Old Town (away from the bars) a few years ago and took ourselves off to Aghios Nicolaus (and the island of Spinalonga), into Heraklion to the museum of antiquities and back out again to the palace of Knossos. If that seems a bit far, at least try and get to the Palace of Malia archaeological site, or take a guided tour up to teh Lasithi plateau to see how real Cretans live - we bought loads of wild mountain oregano and gallons of home pressed olive oil up there. Much better than the overpriced stuff in the tourist shops.

    Lovely people, great food !

We went a couple of years ago to Crete and stayed in Koutouloufari - a small village about 1.5 km from Hersonnissos. It was really nice - the village was nice and quiet with the option of going down to Hersonnissos for the beach or the slightly more busy bars and restaurants if we wanted. The only thing is it was up a steep hill to get to the village from the beach / hersonnissos.

We've just come back from a week in Crete at Agios Nikolaos, with Teddy 3 and Peter 22 months. It's a lovely town, and Elounda up the road is not bad either. Plenty of nice tavernas and other places to eat etc. Beach a bit pebbly, but not a problem for us, little boys love stones, and there was still plenty of sand to dig!

We got the sea cat from Heraklion to Santorini which is spectacular, and also went to Knossos which was fine even with the littlies.

It was very hot though, I reckon later in the Autumn would be lovely.

We've just come back from Bali, stayed at the Amalia appts. It's lovely, lots of nice place to eat.The best beach is the last beach, also called Evitsa. There's a little train that takes you all over the resort for 5 Euros round trip, a great idea for the first day to get your bearings. The town area is our favourite for food and a few bars.

It's really hilly though, and if it's hot can be a bit tiring! Take the train!

    Enjoy, we did!

We're staying in the same appts!

How far are they from the beach, I assume walking distance!

I'm really looking forward to it, we go in half an hour!!

    God you lucky lucky things!

5 mins from nearest beach, come out the appts, turn right, round the corner then left. Can't miss it.You've got a great pool, really friendly staff, change your books in the old reception under the appts.

We were in appt 5.They are all big appts, get air con, it's really hot.Train stops virtually opposite appts.

If you like wine, go for the local stuff in jugs, all nice, I liked the rose.

have fun I am SO jealous!!!!!

How much is the aircon, we are planning on getting it just have no idea how much it will be! Are the safety deposit boxes in the rooms or in reception!

Jugs of wine will be coming my way, so glad you can get rose, I do like pink wine!

Air con 8 euro a day, but may be cheaper as a package for 2 weeks.Safe deposit in wardrobe, don't know how much, we didn't use it.

Best taverna on town beach, stand in front of little beach, it's the far one on the right.

Best little bar in the same area, just on a corner, lots of fairy lights in it and huge menu.Does snacks of mexican food etc. Can't remember the name.

Sunbeds on beach I think 6 euros all day.

Pool area is nice but they play Amy Winehouse all day every day.Gave me a phobia about Amy.I still can't listen to her.

    Thanks Ginge lol!

I'm cross with MrSun. I found a 4* HB holiday, good reviews mostly, he takes on look at it and says he doesn't like the look of it.

He's got rolls royce ideas and mini money as always. Part of me doesn't want to go anyway, it's hassle and stress packing and hoping MissSun will behave on the flight but the other part would love some sunshine. So it's on hold until nearer the time to see if the prices come down and see what we have to spend.

gah, that irks me Sun, i hate it when i find a good deal and the other person for some stupid reason, does not like it. Tell him he has to get over it, he can not go to a Gold Hotel anymore ?

? He can but he'd have to leave MissSun behind. We stayed in a beautiful 'RIU' hotel in May but it rained so we're both still craving the sun, hence going a bit further afield than a 2or so hour flight.
