Crying during vows.....Q for the OM's

Hawk, 29 August, 2012 at 17:04 Posted on Planning 0 29

Did you cry during your vows?

I'm not worried so much about crying, if it happens it happens, curious more than anything. When we first met our vicar a few months back he had us all saying the vows, now whilst I found the thing quite emotional OH just looked at me like I was a crazy lady (no fear of him breaking down)

We have a rehearsal next Wednesday and I'm sure the same thing will happen again, hopefully I'll have dried out come next Friday ?

I can officially answer this now!

No, i didn't cry at all. I had a bit of a moment outside the church and as I got to the door and heard the music but during the vows I was fine. As soon as I had D's hand in mine it was no problem at all.

I welled up during the rehearsal, and as I walked in, but not during the actual ceremony

In response to the OP, I'm not an OM but I'm terrified of crying like a baby during the vows, I'm a big crier.

    Realised I didn't reply - sorry Hawk.

I'm a crier but didn't cry during the ceremony which I was surprised about. I had very sweaty hands though.

This is worrying me too... we had our wedding preparation meeting last night, and I was welling up just at the vicar talking us through the vows and what they meant... big walnut sized lump in throat... I think I will be a crier!

Related question... who's OH cried? Worried mine will be worse that me!! x

No, I didn't. We both got ridiculously giggly during the vows in the rehearsal which I wasnt expecting at all. It was through pure nerves. On the actual day we just looked at each other and smiled loads and shook a bit. No tears apart from our Mums!

Nope, I had some sambucca beforehand to calm my nerves. It worked too.

This is what I was most scared of. Falsies falling off etc looking like a clown for the photos. As it turned out I didn't once. But my H started in the morning getting ready and couldn't stop all day ?

I didn't cry, but there was a moment where words were sticking in my throat a bit and I got emotional. On our little video (we didn't have an official one, but the ceremony itself was videoed) it looks like I have a giggle, but actually it's trying not to cry. OH had exactly the same thing happen - emotional moment covered up with a smile and a little nervous laugh.

We DID blub when we got our photos and set the little montage to music (see my wedding report - link below) and last night I was in the bath and told OH the wedding report was on here if he wanted to read it, and he came upstairs blubbing. Awwww!

I almost cried, but instead stopped, took a very deep breath, and then tried again. Managed to get away without tears right up till speeches

I didn't cry, but then again I rarely do. I did feel a bit of a tickle behind my eyes as OH read his vows. He was welling up as I walked in, but managed to hold it together.

I thought I'd cry as every time I thought about the wedding in the final few days I started to lose it. I nearly cried during the interview bit with the registrar before hand, as she tested the ipod and the first few seconds of my walking in song came on. But as soon as it was time to walk down the aisle I got a big cheesy grin which stayed in place all the way through.

The only tears were during the speeches, and they were mainly my husband's and my dad's, big softies!

I cried quite a lot at the rehearsal vows, but didn't cry during the real thing (I was trying really hard not to).

My mum told me to have a good cry in the morning to get it out my system! I didn't want to cry walking down the aisle as I wanted to look nice on the photos and not a blubbering mess with a red nose! Top tip: if you rub the roof of your mouth with your tongue you can't cry! (not sure if that's true but it worked for me, hard to do whilst saying your vows though!)

I didn't cry during the vows as it was quite upbeat and I was more excited than emotional. Maybe the good cry in the morning did get it out my system!

I was so worried about crying during the ceremony as I'm a total cry baby, but it never happened and instead I found myself having to stifle giggles. I only cried twice during the whole weekend and both those times it was my best friend that set me off for other reasons rather than being emotional about getting married!

I didn't, but that's because I deliberately chose to look over his shoulder slightly so I wasn't actually looking him in the eye because I knew I'd cry if I was actually looking at him! That's actually my one regret from the ceremony in that I wasn't really saying my vows to him.

I'm really worried about crying. When I get nervous, my voice goes all weird and I sound like a man. Add crying into the mix and my vows will not be a pretty sight.

I didn't out and out cry although I thought beforehand that I would! I actually felt strangely calm and collected during my vows, it was during the readings and the address that I welled up and shed a tear or two.

I think I welled up a bit when I got up to H at the top of the ailse but after that I was fine. He had a little tear, but I just kept giggling all the way through the ceremony as he has a stupid name and I couldn't help laughing each time one of us had to say it. I can't wait to see the wedding video my cousin took - it's probably going to look like a comedy! I did cry when H gave his speech though which my MOH managed to capture on camera - I look a mess!
