Cuban honeymoon October

MrsM*LZ, 4 August, 2013 at 22:43 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 4

Hi,

We have booked 10 days in Cuba at the beginning of October. We are doing 3 days B and B in Havana, the 7 days in Varadero all inclusive. We are hoping to do some sight seeing, visit a cigar factory, swim with dolphins and generally chill out and take in their culture etc.

If anyone can answer a few questions and offer some tips that would be hugely appreciated!

How much money can we expect to spend? We were thinking around £500 - is this enough to cover eating out for 3 days and a bit of sightseeing? Also, can anyone tell me the difference between Cuban peso CUP and Cuban convertible peso CUC? Which currency do we need?

Do we need any vaccinations before we go?

Any recommendations of where to go/what to visit would be great! Excited!!

Thanks!!

So excited for you! We did a very similar trip 4 years ago and loved every second!!

I can't remember how much we spent but was very reasonable so think £500 would be fine?

I can't remember which way round currencies are but basically one is local peso and one is tourist and (at least when we went) you can only really get hold of tourist one. If memory serves, you can't get any currency until you arrive?

    We didn't have any vaccinations.

The museum if the revolution in Havana is worth a visit and the 'casa de la music' for a real local experience in the evening - there are more heavily advertised tourist versions of nightlife but this is far more authentic!

From varadero, you can do a boat trip to an island called cayo blanco (I think!) which was a real highlight for us. We also went jet skiing which was good fun. I wanted to swim with dolphins but the one place we did see didn't look great so worth doing some research probably. We also went diving but again do your research as padi isn't recognised in Cuba (being American) so standards vary greatly!

    Hope that's useful Smiley smile

It's CUC that's used by tourists - the other is their local currency. Can't remember how much we spend but think Dolphin swim was about £80/90 each - some of the other trips were fairly reasonable and eating out isn't that expensive so you should be ok with £500

Im so excited for you, Cuba ia amazing!!!

We did have injections - I think you need Hep A jab, but check with your doctor - I dont think its complusory but I had it to be safe..

Go and see the Tropicana show.. an amazing night out! Most places can arrange the visit for you, we did it was part of our Havana trip!

We also swam with Dolphis which was amazing!

Havana is just an amazing place anyway... the old cars and the general feel of it all and not expensive at all! We went to Floridita which is a bar where Hemingway used to drink and had a mohito... loved it in there! Live music and relaxed atmosphere. We also went to a museum where there were pictures of all the famous people that had visited.. I cant remember what it was called!

Oh and the Che Guevara monument is worth seeing too!

Aside from that beautiful beaches and lovely food!

Money should be fine definitely and its CUC which you will use... Smiley smile

Cuba is a beautiful place and ddefinitely one of the best places I have been. We stayed at the parque central in Havana and sandals in varadero, so let me know if you have any hotel questions Smiley smile

in terms of currency, you won't be able to get iit before you travel so you just take sterling with you and exchange it at the hotels. The hotels will know which versions to give you.

We had 4 days in Havana and spent around £200, it was plenty.

Id also suggest getting on the double decker tour bus of Havana which leaves from the central square every hour or so. It's around £3 and takes you all around the city, really good!

    enjoy Smiley smile
