Cupcake help

Weather Girl, 10 August, 2009 at 08:49 Posted on Planning 0 8

Morning ladies

I need to decide on my cupcake designs/colours this week and I need a little inspiration.

Firstly, one of my ideas is to have 'love' or 'wedding' related words iced onto the cakes, e.g. "I do", "love", etc but my range of romantic vocabulary seems to be rather limited. So, can you all make some word suggestions for me?

Secondly, I'd like to co-ordinate the cakes with our colour scheme (burgundy/dark red with hints of orange) so if any of you google experts can find me any pictures to inspire me for the cake decoration it would be very much appreciated. I have spent hours this weekend searching the net but cannot seem to find anything, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places...plus the creativity side of my brain seems to be shrinking fast.

TIA

    Ooooh my kinda lady!

We're having cupcakes as well and I'm attempting to make them myself.... I wish I had access to my home computer as I have loads of different styles saved on there - maybe this eve I will post some.

however the mecca of cupcakes for me is the Martha Stewart website - hare is the link -

even if you are not making them yourself, there are plenty of ideas - you'll be spoilt for choice!

    Hi there

I have a cake making business and we make nearly 200 wedding cakes every year. I think your colour scheme is lovely as it's quite different and striking but I have never made a wedding cake with that specific colour scheme. Lots in burgundy/ivory/dark red or ivory/orange etc but never teamed those specific colours together so I think you will find it very difficult to find exactly what you are looking for on the interent. Also cake makers websites are designed as a selling tool and whilst I try to include some unusual ideas and designs on mine, I don't have room include everything I make so have to make a judgement on what will attract potential customers and sell so tend to play safe and choose cake designs in all the standard bridal/wedding colour schemes (pinks, lilacs and purple, gold, red, burgundy etc). This might be another reason why you are struggling to find something in your colour scheme.

As I say, I think you're colour scheme is lovely and I'd love to do a cake with those colours so please don't think I'm critising your colour scheme - just trying to avoid you spending loads more hours trying to find something online. Have you booked a cake maker to do your cup cakes for you? If you have then I think it's part of their job to provide inspiration and ideas - that's part of what you pay them to do. There are instances where even we have to ask the customer to have a vision as to what our suggestions will look like in their colour scheme and trust us and our experience to advise what would look best.

I've done cup cakes with a mixture of burgundy and ivory icing with the couple's initials on them mixed in with words like love, I do etc as people have suggested. I would suggest having a few mixed in with the lettering in orange to bring in an accent colour or putting them on a cake board/pillar stand edged with orange ribbon etc to bring the colour in or perhaps a small orange rose on a few cup cakes mixed in with the words. It does depend on how much of the accent colour you would like to include - orange ribbons around the tiers of the stand will be very eye catching, a few random words of flowers in the orange on some of the cakes will be a more suble way of introducing another colour. I can see all of these options in my head but I'm afraid couldn't illustrate them with pictures so a bit of imagination would be needed!

    Thanks everyone.

Catherine - thanks for your reply. I have already got a cake maker booked and am due to see them at the weekend to discuss colours, etc. I think I was just after some inspiration before I go. Thanks again though!

    Hi TIA

This is what we had at our wedding (top fruit tier) and the cupcakes were decorated with loads of butterflies (tied in with our theme) and they were 4 differing flavours.

They went down a storm, there was none left by the end of the night! x
