Curling...

Bookish, 21 February, 2014 at 19:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Never watched it before and had no idea what it was so sorry if this offends anyone...

...but when I turned over to watch The Olympics the other day and 'Curling' was on there were genuinely a couple of minutes when I thought that the caretakers were on sorting out the ice. I even turned to OH and asked him when it started to which I got a blank look.

I'm probably just incredibly thick but it did look like very fast 'sweeping up' to me.

*disclaimer* I know nothing about sport!

Ha Bookish! When I watched curling for the first time last weekend I renamed it cleaning - sorry any curlers out there!! It's just coz I don't understand, I'm an ignorant! The GB women's captain is a fittie.

Ha Bookish. My OH calls it 'bowls on ice' I really like it, but then I quite like Bowls too. I've tried it once and it is ALOT harder than it looks. I really enjoy watching it.

The 'are you serious?' Winter Olympic sport for me (though I also love watching it) has got to be the aerial skiing - were they go down a massive slope then do somersaults in the air and land. I cannot believe people can actually do that and my brain can't work out who thought it up or how you work out you're good at it, or how you become good at it. After four skiing stints I can successfully do enough turns to get down a mild hill, and still wobble more than they do landing from the middle of the sky.

Next time I see Dave I'll sign him up!

Failing that will Johnny do, I can almost forgive him for being Canadian:

One of them (not Dave) has the best bum ever - but I can't remember which one! Wasn't looking at his face and I played the worst game of my life!

On the train on Saturday, someone told me curling started in Aberdeen on icy streets and they used tortoises. The tortoises were so scared at being slid along on their backs they 'curled one out' and the brushes were used so they didn't slide through the previous tortoise's poo.

This guy was drinking so I don't think he is a credible source of information.
