Customised my ring cushion *flash* - What next?

Little Madam, 15 November, 2010 at 12:55 Posted on Planning 0 18

WARNING: This is my first ever hand-crafted wedding thingy and so this is also a WHOOOO check this out post (sorry!)

So, from the start: I am not going to lie, I don't like ring cushions, I just don't see the need... However, my mom scoured all over Lanzorote to bring me and OH one back as a gift from her holiday and having found out she paid £35 I can't really refuse to use it. My theme is red roses with a very modern feel - from venue, dress etc. She got me....... This: lace, and pink rose?! (I hate pink and red together!)

However after being inspired to get crafty by you lovely B2b's I have now made it look like this:

There is not a lot I can do about the lace really?! But at least it now ties in with my colour theme.

I have some left over red ribbon and was temped to change the string which we will attach the rings to, and I also have lots of red roses left over so may add more to the corsarge in the middle. I was also thinking of trying to get a personalised charm with out initials to attatch at the top of the draped down ribbon - any opinions? I'm worried it might look too much?

Thanks in advance

For someone who has not doing anything like this before I think its bloody brilliant!! looks like it would if you bought it from the shop like that!

As for adding more etc, I think thats your personal choice, i quite like the way it is now, but maybe a personalised charm would be nice x

    well done you!

Thanks - I am pleased with myself,

I did think of trying to cut off the lace, but I don't think I can do it without damaging the cushion.

I know - can't believe she payed so much!! She just wanted it to be special, bless her, best intentions and all that.......

I think I may try and find a personalised charm and just see what it looks like, it could easily be used elsewhere if needs be.

We didn't have a ring bearer so it kind of didn't make sense for us to have a ring cushion. I liked the idea of having a double engraved ring box and the best man pulling this out.

However... We do now have a ring bearer to go with the cushion, so i'm sure it will be fine.

Well our new ring bearer will only be 2 and half and so those little ties on the cushion are only to be untied by the vicar.

    Hey - it looks great!

If you are just looking for initials to make up something extra, if I've got the letters in stock I'll happily send you them out FOC .... if you wanted something made up that was a bit more sparkly, I'd happily do them - for a good price too ...

Something like these.... (without the bookmark bit and a bit longer, with your initials on)

and in these red siam swarovski colours....

Well done you that looks much better. It looks much better and defo ties in with your theme.

I am not a fan of ring cushions either but my OH gran has made one for every wedding so far so kinda felt i had to ask her to make one for ours. Luckily I can find a design I like and get her to make it - having said that her eyesight is goign so not sure what we will end up with!!

Thats really sweet! You'd be able to get an engraved charm like that quite easily I think from an engraving shop ... I'm not sure where you'd be putting it if you had it exactly like your photo but you could tie the charm onto a ribbon with some beads threaded above it so it hangs down from the rose/ribbon embellishment you've got already? I think that would work rather nicely!

You've done a fab job with it, you should be very proud.

How about a plain loveheart which has a little swarovski crystal in the corner? This is the only pic I have to hand. I do have engraved charms but not with initials but they say 'Bride' 'Groom' or 'Mr and Mrs'. I also have some that say 'Love' on the hearts with a red crystal in the corner which would really suit the cushion. Drop me an email if you want anything. x

Just to jump in here, my dad does engraving, mostly on glass but he can do other materials and as he does it as his main hobby really he doesn't charge much at all if anyone was interested? He is very good (but I am biased lol)

Sorry, hope that doesn't qualify as advertising??

Kayl that is a great job on your cushion! Part of me wants one cause it would be so cute having my two page boys carry one each (they will be 3 and 4 and a half) but my OH just wants his BM to have the rings.

Kat - I have sent you a personal message as I am looking for something for my BMs and wondering what kind of things your dad does. I already have necklace and bracelet so was looking for something a bit different.

Lynsey - I'd love a "Love" charm if possible. I will send you an email via your website.
