Customising my dress

LeaLeigh, 8 February, 2012 at 19:23 Posted on Planning 0 9

I bought my ex display dress from Berketex and realised it was from 2009. Had some wobbles and decided to customise.

Finally found a pic online of Dress. Looks better in real life.

I want to add a sash like this but at the side with my great grandmas brooch on.

I have 2 to choose from. Similar to these.

What do you think? Do able? I tried my dress on again (very friends episode like after a bad day) the other day and fashioned a homemade version and quite liked it. I like the dress but feels it needs something more. Also debating a hoop.

I think he sash is nice. not necessary (i.e i dont think the dress lacks something) but would looke really nice with.

speak to a dress maker. i cant imagine it to be a huge job for a person with the right skills Smiley smile

Lovely dress. Think it would suit a sash too. X

I think it would really add to the dress and break it up a bit. Go for it! At the end of the day if you don't like it you don't have to wear it. Oh and don't worry about your dress being a 2009 season... No one will have a clue!! All they'll know is that it's gorgeous!

    Thanks girls

Conveniently I am having it altered by a dressmaker who specialises in wedding dresses at the end of my street.

It did need altering when I bought it, now the middle is "snug" ? but it needs shortening still so will ask her. I just wanted opinions. It was an impulse buy you see.

The sash will look nice but just be careful because if you are short (like me ) it may cut you in half and make you look smaller, just going by what the ladies said in the shop. x

You can counteract looking short by making the sash thin, rather than a wide band. If you sit it a little smidge higher than waistline it will elongate you too..

Have a search on Etsy for bridal sashes - there are some gorgeous ones on there for inspiration.

I think the dress is lovely as it is, but I really like that sash / bow / brooch combination. I think it gives it a lovely little vintage twist.

Just be sure to use a really nice quality material for the sash.

I am a dinky 5ft3 bride with a groom a whole foot taller, didn't even consider it might make me look shorter.

I am thinking a Silky ribbon not like the matt one, I just liked the style.

Just want to get it sorted now but dress doesn't go for altering until May. ?

I don't have a flash but if you google Sassi Holford Beatrice it had a gorgeous side bow with a brooch.

I really like the vertical bow style but you'd have to pin the material on the dress while wearing it to really see what suits best.
